There is an excellent Gujarati cafe that serves some amazing dishes. I would call that my favourite eatery. However, that would not be the first place I went. There is a greasy, tiny curry house near where I live. It has plain white tiled walls, and red moulded plastic seating. It's always crowded and quite often steamy. The counter is like a cafeteria. You walk up with your plate, they pile rice on the plate, then any curry combination you like. But the curry's don't have names, just ingredients. Chicken, lamb and turnip, potato, daal. Proper family cooking. More than you can eat for less than the cost of a pint. Greasy, sloppy, tasty, hot, satisfying food.
That is what I would eat. Now stop it, you're making me hungry.
