First off, a lot things have changed in my life. I moved to another city, quit my job and a friend who I really like tells me her husband wants her to stop communicating with me - s**t ain't too good right now. Yeah, yeah, yeah, "poor me", *sarcasm* I know.

Look, hope ALL WPers are doing well. Here's what's bugging me. In Star Wars Revenge Of The Sith, Obi Wan tells Anakin, "only a sith deals in absolutes" after Anakin tells Obi Wan that he's either with him, or against him. Good, whatever. But in Return Of The Jedi, Yoda tells Luke, "you either do, or you do not - there is no try." Isn't that an absolute?

In all fairness I've been drinking a bit 'cause I'm pissed off about losing this person from my life, but still, I think there's a valid point for discussion here. What do you all think? :ninja:

Say it with me now: "Star Wars is only a movie ... Star Wars is only a movie ... Star Wars is only a movie ..."

Repeat as needed.

"Only a Sith …" is an absolute.

And before you can do anything, whether it's playing the Appassionata or scratching your butt, you have to try to do it. "There is no try" makes no sense at all.

They are entertaining movies, but you sure don't want to think too hard about them. Dial your critical mind down a notch and watch the likable good guys slice up the despicable bad guys.

Han shot first, and the extended universe is still canon, in my opinion. Also, saying that "only a Sith deals in absolutes" is in and of itself an absolute, therefore it's a self-contradicting statement as it was made by a Jedi.

Jedis aren't perfect, they strive to be emotionless, celibate, protectors of the light side of the Force, but they are only human(oid), for the most part, and they do typical human(oid) things. There are Dark Jedi who haven't joined the Sith, but aren't exactly on good terms with "proper" Jedi either, as they use their Force powers for personal gain.

For the record, I don't consider myself much of a Star Wars fan, but as a nerd, I am obligated to have opinions on it. :P

Damn nerd law! Have to have opinions about Star Wars, Star Trek and such... *grumble* Actually it was Empire that Yoda told that to Luke - my mistake. Anger and alcohol are a bad mix :P

Yeah mr_bigmouth_502, I've been thinking about my motives towards her. As altruistic and Jedi-like as I'd like to be, I'm a guy and only human(oid) :) Kind of understand her husbands attitude towards it all. Still stings something awful, though. Thx for the response.

The statement does not assume what will happen, and with time travel there is no absolute.

Though, my thoughts are not an absolute either.

My thoughts are driven by Absolut - vodka that is! See what I did there?

Time travel? Time has little to do with infinity and jelly donuts. Fans of Magnum PI will like that reference.

Nothing is for certain, or absolute, but death and taxes... oh, and sith lords are the baddest mofos in ANY galaxy - Milky Way included, even if they repeatedly get their asses whipped in confrontations with Jedi Knights.

Thx for the response, cpt.adama.

I interpret it as the result of the actions matter in the end & not the effort put into it.

nick007 I can honestly say I've personally never heard that take on it, or explanation for it and it makes perfect sense! Thx! Kind of like the ends matter, not the means.

Speaking of nerd law, who do you prefer, between Kirk and Picard? I'd have to go with Kirk, just because William Shatner is awesome, and Canadian! :P

Life on the line - back against the wall facing insurmountable odds --- Kirk. Besides the fact he'd be a great wing man in an alien bar! Shatner is "the man".

Needing a figurehead to put the best foot forward to represent star fleet - Picard. Stewart is cool in his own right - CIA director Bullock is hilarious! :D
