I was wondering if anyone else was into modifying cars like I am it is my hobby and my passion and one of my most enjoyable things I do. I currently am trying to sell my 2000 Mitsubishi Eclipse Rs and buy another 2000 Mitsubishi Eclipse that is all stock and by a crashed Mitsubishi Evolution 8 and make the Eclipse all wheel drive swap parts and modify itb to make I it 450-500 horsepower. If any one is into cars please tell about your project and I share.

I like cars, but don't have a nice one or a project. Just a very high mileage transportation appliance that's worth scrap value. Eventually when I have a lot more money I'll have a nicer car/truck.

While it's not really an intense interest of mine, I do get my fill of talking car modding here and there when I visit my high school best friend. He has a car tuning business that he's working very hard on improving and expanding. He mainly tunes Volkswagen TDI ECU's but also does other cars. His site: http://www.malonetuning.com

Chances are I'll buy myself something practical like a truck to put to work making money vs. a cool project. Maybe later in life I'll buy something fun.. but if I'm in a position to drop some semi-serious coin on a car, I'd rather buy my dad the car he wants than one for myself. Maybe I will someday. 8)

Also pick a car you like and start planning stuff out figure prices, learn how to work on your own car and just save up money and you will get there it takes a loTb of time but when you figure out whatv you want and exactly how you want it you will have the means to accomplish it.

I'm into Japan & Sweden plus a bit of Germany. I like Datsuns but all my project cars have been Svenska; Saab 900SE turbo, Saab 9-3 high output turbo (Viggen clutch, Forge diverter valve, crazy rallyish tires) and now I'm settling into a Volvo V50 T5 with a Getrag 6 speed and Haldex AWD. I have similar goals for my V50; 420 is plenty of HP for a station wagon, all my other money I'm putting into tech goodies and handling.

I'm a sucker for hot hatches & five cylinders. The ones that I should have bought are: a chipped Audi 5000CS avant, a VW GTI MKII 16 valve on Nokian Hakks and my friend's WRX wagon before he wrecked it.

Some however are built from pure unobtanium, for example every Mitsubishi rally machine I'm interested in:

Mitsubishi is my car brand man haha i digg the Legnum vr-4. I have a thing for the 3g eclipses for some weird ass reason i am gonna shave the ribs on the doors and front bumper and give it round tail lights like a lotus elise or ferrari f430. I have a feeling the car will look super sleek when its all done. Just get a evo or 89-99 eclipse gsx they all have the same motor the 4g63t its just facing differently on evos. go to you tube and type in evo 8 with stm 6766 turbo kit you will be blown away i am gonna put that turbo kit on I after i do the motor/awd swap.

If I were to pick ONE automaker mine would be Saab. My favorite models actually shared a Mitsubishi td04 (the 9-3 Viggen & Aero), bolted to the front of a balance shafted block derived from Triumph slant fours. If you really want to be blown away by a motor look up the B234R. I love NG body 900s because they offered all the sideways hooliganry your build is aimed at without any fussy drive line confusion. Saab probably figured out the most rigid FWD monocoque ever made - just keep adding throttle response & boost until the owner runs out of skill! :D Even a 9-5 combi is quite capable with a little practice. Gotta admit if I buy something without a Getrag trans ever again I'll probably break it.

If I were you I'd keep it looking 100% stock or downgrade to steelies and put all the extra money in suspension, seating/safety and brakes. Anything Evo or WRX is perilously close to getting wrapped around a tree. Comes with the territory... Personally I just let Swedish restraint save my ass. It's been quite reliable thus far.

1990 Honda Civic hatchback w/ 468k kms that's been in a couple accidents lol it's literally worth scrap value - but in terms of utilitarian transportation appliance value, it's golden. It gets me around for pretty low dough while I continue to save money for other goals.

Ideally I'd have myself a mid 60's Lincoln Continental w/ suicide doors - not sure if hardtop or convertible. That would be a sick project.

Practically, I'd buy a 4 door F-150 4x4 w/ a sunroof & dual fuel - propane/gasoline.

But I'll buy and drive almost anything if I know I can flip it and make good money on it.

For my father, it'd be a 1957 Chevy Bel Air, 2 door, convertible, black. If I come to have $$, I'd be happy to buy him one ahead of buying myself a Lincoln or any other non-work vehicle. Time will tell if I can or not. He'll be retiring sometime in the next 3-5 years I think. It would be REALLY cool to be able to buy it for him then. Much easier if my siblings agreed to pitch in. Approximate cost would be somewhere around $40-50K for a really good daily driver example I think.

This is true of any financial goal. My financial goals aren't car related. I like cars, but they're not a priority for me. I'm currently saving up money for a business plan I Need to try and see if I can make work. Slowly but surely I'll amass all of the resources I need to give it a go. Then if it works out, there will be plenty of money in the future with which to buy cars and other stuff.

Cberg what do I you mean wrapped around a tree? There one of the better handling cars and they come with recaro seats and brembo brakes stock there a race I prepped production car. Also having steelies makes the car slower i am buying a pair of enkei psr5 18x8 for the car an powder coating them gold. Lighter rims means less rotational mass and parasitic loss due to extra weight. I will pass on doing the sleeper thing the car is gonna have 10 grand put into it i wanna turn some heads yah no. I also plan on doing Lamborghini doors after everything else has been done. You do realize that fwd is the I shittiest thing for putting I power down when you accelerate the front of your car I lifts up taking weight off your tires which in turn loose traction and spin. I mean it cool to see a fwd car spin its tires in 2nd gear at 45mph but seeing an awd car spin all 4 tires at 80mph is way more impressive in my book.

Goldfish21 you can get that car for your dad for like $4000-$8000 it might not be in great shape but learn how to do the work on it an Suprise him with it or get it and work on it with him. Also personally i fucken hate hondas but you dont act like a ricer with the giant muffler and big ass spoiler on it so your a-ok in my book haha. Also try to get a 80's something chevy truck because there body's are more solid and will give You more bang for your buck in the long run. Also your Lincoln with Suicide doors sounds sick man.

For $4-8k a '57 Bel air convertible coupe would be in pretty rough shape. For around $20-30K it might be in OK daily driver kind of shape. For $40-50K it should be in pretty good shape. There are some on eBay right now going for like $ix figure$, too. There's a black one with a starting bid of $40K but that isn't even the reserve price. A $4-8K version would require hundreds of hours of work. I'd need space, a shop, and tools etc that I don't have. That's a possibility in 3-5 years, maaaybe.. so who knows? Maybe I'll do one up for him myself. Buuuut, if I have more money than time I'd be more likely to just buy one or pay a shop to build one. Or maybe buy one that's a lot closer to complete and just finish it myself.. Hmmm, time will tell what option I go with if & when I have the coin to drop on such a gift. Or when, I should say. Heh. I'll get to that level of wealth eventually. Oh, and he's not a car/mechanical guy at all - so he wouldn't be into doing it as a project together. He just likes the car and would enjoy owning & driving it. If I ever buy him one I know I'll be the one maintaining it forever, too - or he'll take it to a shop like he does his current vehicles.

Honda's are certainly nice and boring for the most part.. buuuut cheap as F to own and operate. Driving this high mileage tin can around as a basic a-b transportation appliance has allowed me to save up a lot of money I'd have otherwise blown on driving either a newer car or a cooler car. I won't drive such a boring & invisible car forever, but I will for as long as I need to in order to get the money I need to get what I want. And no, it's not riced or modded at all. Although, I did patch the exhaust back together with a hose barb, jb weld putty & epoxy, hose clamps and redbull cans. :P It cost $25 and worked! I curbed it sliding on the ice in December and bent the front unibody, so the alignment is off. I also slid on the ice in December and rear ended someone.. so the hood is a wee bit crunched. It's literally worth scrap value in terms of resale value, but it's utilitarian value is pretty high. It gets me and my tools or gear to wherever I need to go, which is all it needs to do.

Nah to a 80's Chevy truck. I'll probably end up buying a ~10year old 4 door F-150 on propane that still looks quite new & modern vs. anything from the 80's. And I like F-150's for several reasons, soooo I'll be buying a Ford. Only way I'd buy something else as an interim vehicle until I buy an F-150 is if it's such a ridiculously low price I know I can make money reselling it. In that case I'd buy, drive, and resell anything - even a 1980's Chevy truck. :P

Eventually I'll have my Lincoln with suicide doors. 8) And if I ever have even bigger coin to blow on a cool ride of the more exotic variety, I'd add a Maserati to my collection. Exhaust note; that's why.

There's a 980bhp Skyline in my area and it's rapid! Never been into Evos, or Subarus. In the UK they're usually driven by idiots so I tend to dislike the cars lol.

My brother rebuilds cars and modifies them heavily. I often wonder if he has Aspergers because his job is with cars, then in his spare time he loves cars. I couldn't tell you a thing about them ... except how to hack an ECU.

Best car in the world? .... AC Cobra, easily.
