That is BS. How do you know a cat wouldn't try and protect you? Flo got angry with someone once just because they hit me with a rolled up newspaper. They are not disloyal at all. Cats are not selfish. They are intelligent, kind and awesome.

Yo no reason to blow up at me, you're the one who asked why some people don't like cats...I answered!

I have never seen or heard of a cat trying to really protect someone, and you can go to a strangers cat and it will treat you like you're it's best friend as long as you have food. I don't pretend to know about your cat, but any cat I've been around has always at first sight of me treated like it's best friend.

Either I have a animalistic magnetism that draws every animal to instantly love me, or cats are false :p

Let's not get bashing dogs now. I love dogs  I think that women can relate more to cats and men more to dogs...

What about someone who is neither a man or a woman?

I dunno... a tiger?

No, they just want something from you. They are manipulating you because they recognise you as a human. And they are intelligent enough to know that humans are the most idiotic mammals ever to walk the Earth.

Exactly, they want something :P But I never give them anything - dogs on the other hand don't come to you just because they want something, they do it because they want to. Basically anyway, if you call them by their name they listen and so on.

Dogs are more "people like" than cats, and don't use people. Dogs can also be "raised" to behave a certain way, be taught tricks and even become extremely intelligent while working with people. Cats more or less don't care about anyone other than themselves.

But like I said, cats are cute and I don't mind cuddling them 8)

Okay, let's compare cats to dogs.

Dogs come when called by name. Flo comes when I call her too.
You can teach dogs many tricks. You shouldn't need to teach your family members tricks.
A dog wagging it's tail means happy, with a cat you don't know what the hell you're getting. If you know your cat well, then you can tell when they are happy/sad/pissed off.
Cats sleep for 16 hours each day, dogs only 10. That's good. You can just lie there and talk to them. You don't have to take them out for a walk or to play.
Dogs are loyal and friendly, cats only cuddle up to you when they want food or comfort. They use you. Flo doesn't use me. She loves me. Dogs are stupid then.
You can take dogs for walks. How is that a good thing? I have social anxiety and I hate hot weather. I'd rather stay in sleeping next to Flo.
Dogs don't run off for days at a time and return only because they are hungry. Flo has never done that.
Dogs don't have a sandpaper tongue. Why would you want them to lick you anyway?
Dogs talk more, and their 'voice' isn't whiny like a cats is. Talking more is not a good thing. Cats have beautiful voices.

Need I go on? Dogs > Cats. Incorrect.

That is the exact reason why cats are better. I don't want another human (albeit a cuter one), I want a cat. Cats are intelligent, kid, wise, funny, clever and cute. Humans are none of those things.

My dad got bit in the butt by a dog and now he's afraid of most animals including dogs and cats. He's even afraid of hamsters and refuses to touch them!

I absolutely adore cats but live with someone who says they are horrible, but I think (until proven otherwise) that they are generalising from the "I own the place" attitude of the cat that lives next door to us

Yah, I don't much like dogs either. I do like guineapigs, haha - or hampsters. They're small and easy to handle, there is no risk for them to crap on the carpet and they won't run away.

I like cats, but I love dogs. Dogs are loyal, I pretty much love dogs for the same reason the mad german did. 8O My favourite cat is the siamese. There was a lovable cat at one of the barns my mom had her horse at. The cat got hit by a truck. I cried whe I heard about it.

Hmm...they aren't actually family members. And it's not about needing to, it's that you can. My dogs enjoys rolling over and shaking my hand.

I was never good at reading body language. Dogs are the pet for Aspergians.

Sopho wrote:

I would talk, but they don't speak the same language as me. Plus, when something is asleep theres really no point in talking to it even if they could understand human language. Further, cats hide away when they sleep so you can never track them down.

Sopho wrote:

Flo uses you for food, shelter, warmth and comfort. Does she pay for any of those things?
Also, animals don't love because they don't feel emotion. They operate purely on conditioning, trial and error learning and instinct. No, dogs are not stupid, they can learn tricks, remember?

Sopho wrote:

Because not everyone has social anxiety and like to take their pets for walks.

Sopho wrote:

Then your cat is one of a kind. Either that or you don't let it out.

Sopho wrote:

It was an observation. Dogs have nice, smooth tongues while cats tongues are gross. Plus, licking is kissing and its nice to be appreciated.

Sopho wrote:

Cats have a loud, high pitched, irritating whine.

Incorrect.

We shall see.

I do let Flo out, she can go out whenever she wants. She just prefers being inside with me because she likes being with me because she loves me.
