you sound to me a bit like a spokanite or a kansan, but of course I don't know where you're from. you have an otherwise "neutral" western US accent. at least that is what it sounded like filtered through the vocaroo service which was somewhat distorted.

Strange. I've never been to Kansas or Washington. (Or to the US for that matter.)

Here is a better recording.

Well, I am Southern Canadian. So, I guess Canadian and Americans speak similarly.

Grew up around Washington DC here in the middle of the eastern seaboard. But apparently the way a speak is more Midwestern. That because my parents came from Colorado, and Kansas, respectively.

In fact according to every language book/article Ive ever read the way I speak is for practical purposes "the Chicago dialect" even though no one in my family lives within hundreds of miles from Chicago.

Basically standard American English but unlike most folks (in Canada, Britain, OR the USA) I actually pronounce the letter "r" in words (without going overboard and rolling my r's like a Scotsman).

So if I told you "I am going to a party" you would know immediately that I was "attending a social event", and not "about to take a dump".

In contrast when most Americans (and Brits who are not Scotsmen)say the phrase "I am going to a party" it is indistinguishable from how they say "I am going to a potty".

"I am going to a potty," to me, represents an extreme Boston-type accent. The vowel's duration here is shorter than most.

In most r-less pronunciations, the vowel would be extended, and party would sound more like "pahhtee" or "paw tee."

New Yorkers say "cawfee" for coffee and somewhere near "pawtee" for party. The vowel's duration is longer than the Boston version.

But i like to mix accents. If i hear a word in another accent and i like how they spell it sometimes i adapt it into my speech pattern. So in some cases i talk "Germix" :D

LOL. Okay.. yes, it sounds like "a boat" to outsiders because of Canadian Raising. I actually tried to stop saying it that way but it was impossible to lose.
