Mosquitoes suck, both literally and figuratively. No other animal on Earth is responsible for more human deaths than the lowly mosquito.

According to MacLean's, "The general consensus of demographers is that about 108 billion human beings have ever lived, and that mosquito-borne diseases have killed close to half—52 billion people, the majority of them young children." That makes mosquitoes, by far, the world's deadliest animal.

That's probably why mosquito-borne illnesses always get a lot of press coverage. In the United States, the little bloodsuckers are responsible for outbreaks of West Nile virus and Zika virus, among others. Now, Eastern Equine Encephalitis (EEE or Triple E) is the latest to cause public concern.

Why are there so many EEE cases this year? An article by Yasemin Saplakoglu in LiveScience explains that virus-infected, swamp-dwelling birds migrate up from Florida and take residence in New England. (Both areas serve as the epicenter for EEE cases.) Infected birds aren't killed but develop immunity. However, younger birds aren't immune, and when a young bird gets sick, the virus can be transmitted. Mosquitoes that feed on birds sometimes feed on humans, spreading the virus to us. This, along with the introduction of new strains of EEE, create a cycle in which larger human outbreaks occur every decade or two.

The best mosquito is a dead one, as far as I'm concerned.

What will the frogs eat?

I hate mosquitoes too, because they transmit yellow fever and Dengue fever.

I'm from south Louisiana & the mosquitoes get pretty bad there unless the government sprays which causes other health & environmental concerns.
On the movie Lilo & Stitch, Earth is supposed to get destroyed or something but someone saves our planet by having the mosquito population declared as an endangered species

I'm going to say the same as I did with cockaroaches... Thank goodness we don't have bitey mosquitoes here

Flies, moths, dragonflies, grasshoppers, worms, crickets, and other buggys

Large frogs will also eat mice, small frogs, baby turtles, small snakes etc

They'd get by without mosquitos

i useta like the white-trash entertainment of sitting securely behind a screen door on a summer night, watching the bugzapper take care of the damned little exsanguinators.

I liked watching the bugzapper when I went swimming in our pool in the evenings. The bugzapper was near the pool but not super close.

glad to hear the zapper was "not super close" to the pool.

My parents took me camping a lot when I was a kid, so I've spent an evening or two watching bugs as they got toasted on a bug zapper with a satisfying snap.

But I've read somewhere that mosquitoes aren't attracted to the lights bug zappers have.

The diseases they can carry and spread are the worst. They're basically tiny, infected, dirty hypodermic needles with wings.

One more thing I like about Autumn, mosquitoes going bye bye.

They're one of my worst sensory and misophonia triggers. I can melt down instantly if they buzz near me. The bites and itch don't bother me as much as the dreaded sound, and the difficulty escaping them. The fact that they are the deadliest creature on the planet makes it even worse. I can say without a doubt, I hate them too.

i heard that the ones you can hear, are not the exsanguinators. the ones you can't hear [as well, faintly] ARE.

I also just read that the bugs that *do* get electrocuted by bug zappers because they're attracted to light are mostly harmless or beneficial.
