I would probably feel trapped, but it would help if there was a window. But then again, if I had my phone, iPad, and a good book, it probably actually wouldn't be much different than my present situation, except I wouldn't get to go out to take my dog for walks. I'd feel more bored, but wouldn't actually be prevented from doing most of what I do all day. I'd certainly comply with it because I don't want the weight of anyone's severe illness or death on my shoulders, and even if I never developed symptoms, I'd think about all the people I'd had contact with and think "What if I was an asymptomatic carrier and got them sick, or even dead?" Better to spend the two weeks in a hotel room than risking infecting people with a potentially deadly pathogen.

Yet in my new wildness and freedom I almost welcome the bitterness of alienage. For although nepenthe has calmed me, I know always that I am an outsider; a stranger in this century and among those who are still men.
