Why do so many men like action movies?
I can't stand action movies that consist of constant shooting or speeding in fast cars or things blowing up. My boyfriend is often entertained by these sorts of movies, and if I talk while he's watching one he'll tell me to shush. But there's barely any words in some of these action movies, just a load of men darting about chasing each other with guns and leaping over stuff and big explosions and gunshots. Maybe the actors enjoy playing roles in these movies.
But it just seems that these action movies seem to always be on TV.

This may be stereotypical but most guys are Doers while most women are Thinkers/Communicators. We enjoy action movies because for the most part, it's mindless shooting, running around, and fighting. It's the same reason why most women enjoy rom-coms or dramas; they deal with communication and emotion. It's just instinctual.
As for the no talking, it's because it's seriously a distraction. There may not be any dialogue during an action sequence but they're extremely fast-paced, which is why if the viewer's attention is taken away for only two seconds, the person in the movie could have started fighting in a building and is now in a subway, and the viewer won't know how the person got there. Think of the John Wick series: if you look away for a second, you'll miss at least three kills.
The time to talk is when there's dialogue in the movie because action movies are not smart and the dialogue and plot don't matter for the most part.
But it just seems that these action movies seem to always be on TV.
But it just seems that these romance movies seem to always be on TV.

Because from the age of secondary human evolution, man has competed against man to be the best man for the women which releases testosterone in the brain and sometimes makes man violent. We took it all too far and begun going to war with each other. Some people in Hollywood made an exaggerated film about mans nature for money. And the man understands subconsciously.
Because women simply just want man to calm down and love there man so Hollywood made an exaggerated film about women's nature for money and women understands.
PRESUMABLY. I do not watch movies, can not keep up with them.

It's exciting and suspensful, like riding a roller coaster or playing laser tag, you can turn your brain off and just enjoy the kinesthetics of what's happening on the screen, I imagine people who watch sports get the same kind of pleasure. Maybe you live vicariously through the protagonist and pretend you are the hero and you can do all these cool things too, get away from your boring life where you can't jump 6 inches off the ground without hurting your knee. Entertainment, stories, fiction, media, etc, are only interesting if they have conflict, drama is one kind of conflict and supposedly women prefer this, but action is just another expression of conflict.
Why men prefer action movies specifically...? I don't know... testosterone? Are you sure that's not a stereotype?
All right, I will politically correct what I said. Why do some people enjoy action movies?
By the way the title of this thread was a rhetorical question. I was merely ranting more, because nearly every night when I come home from work my boyfriend has some loud action movie like James Bond on, and so all I can hear while I'm eating my dinner is loud racket going on.
I said ''men'' because most, if not all women that I know often complain about their husbands or boyfriends watching action movies all the time, so it must be a common thing among men more so than women. Maybe I should have posted this in the women's section. Or on an NT women's discussion forum where people don't take everything so literally.

Assuming this was a question to me as I mentioned testosterone:
Where I live, there is a steroid and protein trend which seems to have made the majority of man appear super-masculine and big in muscle, not dissimilar to the action men in the movies. Either the correlation with the muscle culture and the action movies is the work of God or the devil or Hollywood are just working with what they know, for money. Honestly, I do not know the root of steroid culture, but generally, before a drug is released, in this case, to a large proportion of people, there is reason for it to be released and it is trialled on people beforehand, scientist's enjoy a fruitful experiment with good results, happened with LSD before it was distributed to hundreds of hippies and artists, it was tested on two individuals where they were tested to see what happened before distribution, steroids are certainly not healthy and are psychologically addictive but women seem to be attracted to this type of body mass, therefor when man sees a modified replica on movie, they are stimulated. Either that or every man is secretly gay... when I was younger and before I knew the word gay, behind the looking glass, I was secretly attracted to the men characters on TV.
Is it a stereotype? Yes. Apologies.

I happened to be more of a 'doer' than a 'communicator'.
But sure, action appeals me more than navigating through the emotions and social conventions.
The last thing I'd ever watch is romance -- unless I'm rather desperate or seen something good enough -- and I grew up with a house full people who prefers these things. It gets very repetitive.
No matter how much I can actually understand and keep up with it, it's rare for me to actually appreciate it.
And if it happened to be inserted in the middle of nowhere or as a subplot... SIGH. *SMH*
I'd definitely rant about romantic movies as much as you'd rant about action movies.
As for between men and women? I dunno.
I only have the utmost basic of theories about that.

I am a guy ,but cant stand modern CGI type action movies with ten story tall cyborgs tearing up cities. Cant stand more than one tire screech in a movie. Get bored with these movies that are just one long contrived fight scene for two and half hours. But I hafta endure endless DVDs at a buddy's house of that.
The Original "Red" was pretty good. But then they had to pump up the voltage for the sequel, and I just found it tiresome to watch. Even not so violent moves, like Pirates of the Caribbean, just cram in too much CGI and gimmickry for my taste. I guess I still live in the 20th Century.
Like classic action moves from past decades like "In Harm's Way", "Tora Tora Tora"."Enter the Dragon", the original "Road Warrior".
Dont mind the occasional chick flick. Some films, like "Three Men and baby" (three hunky dudes and one cute baby) are TOO deep into chick country for me to get into. But a dude and chick having a relationship is fine.

It was in fact not directed at you, I was just musing, but I appreciate the answer, you don't have to apologize.
I actually like most movie genres. I like family, comedy, horror, drama, and sitcoms (not American sitcoms though). I find some thrillers quite complicated to follow, and I'm not a big fan of musicals or fantasies, and I like some romance movies but it's not my favourite genre, especially if they're full of too many naked women. But action movies are not something I'd ever watch, and that includes the geeky/marvel type of movies too like Star Wars or Doctor Who. Those types seem to be common among people on WP.
