How do you feel about ASMR? ASMR stands for autonomous sensory meridian response. It is where people make YouTube videos of certain sounds that are supposed to give you a tingling or a relaxing sensation. They are normally referred to as ASMRtists. These sounds include whispering, eating, paper crinkling, tapping, brushing, soap cutting, and other sounds sounds. ASMR also involves role playing where they pretend that they are a doctor, a massage therapist, your boyfriend/girlfriend, or whatever they come up with. ASMR has really blown up over the last 10 years or so. ASMRtists have hundreds of thousands or millions of subscribers and views on their channel. I personally enjoy these videos. ASMR is better with headphones.

It's hard for me to understand the draw to this because my ears are very sensitive to these sorts of sounds - thus it induces pain.

I tried listening to various kinds of ASMR recordings thinking I would like it as I usually enjoy different everyday sounds. Unfortunately, I found it really annoying, especially ones where there is whispering. The other ones of everyday sounds such as fans, water, etc...were just irritating to me. I can understand why some people would really like this, but to me it wasn't relaxing and made me more anxious and irritated lol

I'm actually really disappointed I can't enjoy this as I really wanted to experience the brain tingling and relaxation. The art of ASMR seems really interesting, but sadly I just can't get into it :(

I love ASMR, particularly role-plays (though that has less to do with ASMR itself and more to do with the fact that I enjoy playing different roles myself, in my head). I do experience the tingly sensation that is actually ASMR (the videos are intended to trigger this sensation, but not everyone gets it) and quite enjoy many of the most common triggers (can be visual as well as auditory).

I'm not a fan since I can't stand whispering.
