Ha, thanks.
I don't know if it's youthfulness or good old-fashioned stunted development.

I'm writing this list to remind myself I've accomplished a few noteworthy things.
That's because I've had an absolutely horrible year, and I'm very down on myself.
I hope it doesn't sound like I'm being cocky.

It's really hard for me to identify or admit anything special about myself.
This thread has been an exercise in humility, if nothing more.

watched an officer [military] get dressed down by another higher-ranking officer. watched a surgeon [colonel] snatch a scalpel from a lower ranking [captain] surgeon and yell at him "GOD DAMN IT! you stupid! NOW what in the HELL am i gonna tell the patient when he wakes up?!" the captain had made the initial incision on the wrong side of the patient's torso. i could some tell that he was red with embarrassment at being dressed down like that in front of an enlisted person [moi] much less than at having royally screwed up at the expense of the patient who now had two incisions instead of one.

When I was seven, one of my paintings was chosen to be hung in a local library which was just opening.
It was there for several years with my name engraved on a plaque.
For all I know it's still there :)

I learned how to make macrame from my dad and his mum.

I married Elton John (OK, just in my head).

I was a travelling cricket for Bobby Gimby.

This is the song, but I can't find his version. ^

I did public speaking events about books when I was about 8-9 years old.

I won concert tickets on the radio.

I let baby ducklings swim in my bathtub.

That's a good way to put it.
I desperately need a buoy right now.

By the way I'm still trying to find the ghost thread.
No luck yet.

What other blabbelonian things set you apart, auntie?

this thread?
viewtopic.php?f=35&t=404142&view=previous

i am, basically, utterly undistinguished. my cat has more accomplishments and more life experience than me. not much of an exaggeration here. i was an early amateur adopter of PC CDR technology in 1995. not the first, though, bigger entities had been making their own for at least a decade earlier. i was an early amateur adopter of PC audio restoration technology in the same year. but not the first, the big city guys had been doing it for at least a decade earlier. in the army i led a group of drunken GIs in our skivvies up an engineering ladder up the side of the 5 story military hospital we were assigned to, to accompany a slightly too drunk GI back to his barracks the night before he had to PCS [move to another military base across the country]. we somehow found an unlocked engineering door and stumbled our way in the dark until we made it to the operating room, where the on-call tech saw us and laughed at us. :D then we stumbled our way behind the Staff Duty Officer of the Day's desk while he was on the phone with somebody so he didn't notice us or else we'd have been strung up to dry], walked him back to his barracks down the hill. other than that, haven't done much with my life. no real adventures to speak of, no dealings with high and mighty beautiful people. no accomplishments. strictly average mere mortal here.

This thread is actually therapeutic. It encourages you to think about the good stuff you’ve done, even if you have to wrack your brains over it. A bit like CBT (which was actually NOT one of my high points).
So, a few more dredged up.

I’ve been diving in zero visibility water. You could just about see your hand an inch in front of your face if you shone a torch on it. Why? It was a training exercise, to tick off in a log book.

I’ve played in bands in front of big crowds. Maybe 2,000 people. I’ve also played in front of one man and his dog.

As a kid I was a runner up in a Blue Peter painting competition. Blue Peter is a childrens’ programme on the BBC in the UK and it’s been running for ever. I still have competition badge and kids today are still in awe when they see it.

Friday, 7 November 1988 @ 1800 hrs. [i waited 'til rush hour was over] - upon my ETS from uncle sam's army, i drove my car alone [nobody to spell me or keep me awake], approx. 2,750 miles, from Alexandria VA to Spanaway WA in about 2 days, 21 hours. managed to squeeze in an average of 6 hours sleep each night until the last leg from Wall, SD to home. that was the first and last time i did anything resembling "long haul" in my life. i never wanna do that again. luckily i didn't fall asleep and crash like so many others have done on that route. i'm very thankful my 1988 Plymouth Reliant was reliable for the whole trip, and thankful for cruise control to relax my feet and a superb stereo system to keep me company along the trip.

Nothing extra re: Tony Randall.

He just happened upon us pitching quarters.

I haven’t accomplished nearly as much as most people in this thread.

I did do 3 marathons in the 90s.

It’s a tragedy that people have accomplished so much—yet are so down on themselves. So what if you’re “socially awkward.” Big effin deal! People who judge have to get a life!

Back in the early 70s, I met Jane Fonda in the living room of someone’s house. She put my son, then about 2, on her lap. She was talking to a small group of us about the Vietnam war.

In about 4th grade, at a school festival, I won the cakewalk twice, thereby winning two cakes. I had to carry both home. This was back in the days when we walked to and from school. :D

Trueno, good observation about this thread. Thank you.

Drank out of a cup made from a human skull and blown a trumpet made of human thigh bone.
Shook a POTUS hand.
Had three mothers and fathers.
