I suppose one could opt for the best of both worlds.

Very few castle like structures in Canada tho, and doubt very many foreign castles are all that crappy.. but never know, there might be a neglected run down one somewhere that’s a total goldilocks. 8)

I'd assume the bulk of them are rundown unless the family that owns it is especially wealthy. Having wealth from ownership doesn't mean one's got the income to cover upkeep.

There's an old trope about poor aristocrats because of how common that situation is.

yup..yup... who is going to mow the yard at your castle and groundswork and masonery maintenance...???
But always thought that idea of being a Princess in a Castle , :queen: when I was tiny was a interesting fantasy based on
reading many books in those days :study: .But There Are NO friggin White Knights left With Lovely White Horses, that I know of ???. Drat..Drat..Drat..... :(
