When I was a kid I remember seeing a lot of hotrodded Cavaliers and Sunbirds/Sunfires.

In the case of that channel, they've got lots of cheap cars and mostly have been modding them as science experiments.

I remember in the early-mid 00's you would occasionally see a Cavalier or Sunfire with a bodykit and a fart can on the back, but no one ever really modified them to improve their engine performance. All of those cars are all long gone, I assume they got driven into the ground or totaled. The only ones that are left are granny spec base models. The Z24 Cavalier and Cobalt SS are practically non existent with the later being rare because they didn't make many in the first place. I however remember seeing lots of Z24's in the 00's. To be honest I have a bit of a soft spot for these tinny GM sh*tboxes, they have a mechanical simplicity that I find charming in comparison to today's electronically overladen vehicles. I have ridden in many of these cars, it seems like everyone under the age of 30 in the 00's either had a Cavalier/Sunfire or a Neon.

I still see a few Z24s and Cobalt SSes around town in decent shape, along with a bunch of more pedestrian models that are slowly rotting.

I've occasionally wondered what car can be heard at the start of this song.

I see the occasional Cobalt SS, Saturn Ion Redline, or Z-24 floating around from time to time as well. Granted I also live in an area with lots of gearheads. Antique, exotic, rare, modded, I see all kinds of cars on the daily.

I tried to find an old "Zits" comic I once saw, where the kid's computer start making a funny noise, and the dad says it sounds like his search engine may have a loose belt, and asks the kid to pop the hood - but no such luck.

Never used the Netscape search, but I did use the Netscape Navigator browser for ages.

My best guess is a british sports car from the 60's or 70's.

Very unique and interesting choice,

This must be a rare Canadian model because it's left hand drive, I don't believe Rover cars were ever sold in the US.

I believe the engine in these V8 Rover P6's were derived from an early 60's Buick design that was later sold to Rover. I think the original engine was called the Buick 215 V8. I'm not a expert on British vehicles so don't quote me.

You are correct. Rover purchased the rights to Buick's 215ci V8, and modified it to fit and work in the P6 chassis.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rover_P6#NADA_models

That car was sold in the US. They lumped the US and Canadian market versions together as NADA (North American Dollar Area).

The Vitesse SD1 3500 was sold in the US too.

I only know this because I got a Hot Wheels P6 a few months ago.
