I want to visit Taumatawhakatangihangakoauauotamateaturipukakapikimaungahoronukupokaiwhenuakitanatahu. It’s a hill in New Zealand.

Quote:
[The name] translates into English as "the place where Tamatea, the man with the big knees, who slid, climbed and swallowed mountains, known as 'landeater’, played his flute to his loved one." Locals simply call it Taumata Hill.

Tamatea was a famous chief and warrior. One day, while travelling through the back of Porangahau, he encountered another tribe and had to fight them to get past. During the fight his brother was killed. Tamatea was so grieved over the loss of his brother that he stayed at the battle site for some days. Each morning he would sit on the hill and play a lament on what is called the koauau or Maori flute.

I wonder if my parrot feels the cold when he insists on sleeping near the window. I see him sneezing a lot, but in parrots the sneezing is supposed to be unrelated to catching a cold, I guess?!

There's a cuuuuuuuuuteeeeee little fat cat with big sparkly rounded eyes that I just fed in the green space near my parents' home. I'd love to get him vaccinated and bring him indoors -- I think about this every time I see a cat. Unfortunately, my parents don't allow cats bc they are concerned about the safety of the parrots :)
I will eventually move out (soon).
Oh god, I love cats. When will I have the chance to adopt one of them? or maybe five? or more??

When I had a parrot she would huddle under or perch on top of her UV lamp for the warmth in winter. But I know other African Greys and Cockatoos that are still outside at the moment. They seem to adapt.

As I recall sneezing can be a sign of respiratory infection, but not necessarily. They're dusty birds so they sneeze. I think you get discharge from the nostrils and eyes if it's an infection. And general droopiness.

My cat greets me every morning; I pet her, feed her and brush her. Then it's as if she says I no longer have a need for you and I probably won't see her for the rest of the day.

P.S.: I feed her wet food in the morning but she has access to dry food all day

Thank you so much for helpful information! Yeah, I don't know why he chooses to sleep in a cold place bc he is free so basically can choose where to sleep. Maybe it's better to take him to the vet to check for infection just in case.

Changing tack...

William the Conqueror nicknamed his son Robert 'Curthose' for his short legs (curthose meaning short stockings). His son William was 'Rufus' for his red hair or possibly ruddy complexion. His son Henry was 'Beauclerc' as he was well educated and literate and possibly being readied for a role in the clergy.

William Rufus succeeded William I as King of England but died in a hunting accident early in his reign.

Henry became Henry I and had Robert Curthose imprisoned for the rest of his life, which was unusually long (he lived into his 80s).
