Prior to today, I brushed off the idea of getting a Twitter account because I figured that my life wasn't interesting enough for it. However, I'm starting to think that it would be a good way of keeping up with celebrities and other public figures I'm interested in, and, who knows? I might find something to tweet about every so often.

For those who already have a Twitter account, what do you think?

Couldn't work out what it was all about and in any case, the tweet button wouldn't work.

I've had a twitter account for about a year. I follow a lot of mental health campaigning type people, and political people. I'm not too interested in celebrities, they are generally annoying and puffed up with their own self importance. But I've found it a valuable way of communicating with people who are also living a hermit type of lifestyle.

Having said that, twitter can be a bit overwhelming, there seem to be frequent misunderstandings, and the twitter crowd can be very quick to form a bullying gang if someone says something perceived to be unacceptable.

You can protect your account so only people you choose can see your tweets.

Twitter is mostly useless as far as social networking goes unless you have an absolutely ret*d amount of friends, it's just fun to see what famous people have to say I guess. Everyone famous has one just about.

I'm not sure what an 'absolutely ret*d amount of friends' is? Does this mean very few? In which case, yes I have that. In that I have zero friends. There are many people there in a similar situation to me. I lack social skills.

I mainly use it in 'read only' mode, keeping up with people who interest me.

I REALLY don't understand Twitter.

I've just deleted my account as a result - I started it thinking I'd 'get it' after a while of using it, but nope...still not got a clue. I used mine for my activism so random thoughts and sharing links/news stories, thus I always had stuff to post, and I was following a lot of people and vice versa although there's no real or worthwhile communication between people, it's also impossible to keep-up with all the tweets.

Personally I think Twitter is useless...even if it is just to keep-up with people who interest you or famous people, again you can't keep-up with anyone and if you want to keep-up it's best to read their blogs or for celebrities just read what they tweet in the news *shrugs*

I don't understand Twitter either. I created an account, posted once, failed to find any use for it, and never used it again. I don't like to be bombarded with mostly useless information, and I don't know how people come up with things to say. Very rarely do I have something to say that isn't in response to something someone else says.

I quite enjoy watching twitter when there is a particular event on television. For example I watch Question Time avidly (a weekly political debate programme where members of the public get to ask questions of MPs). Because I follow so many political people it can be quite amusing to watch all their reactions to the politicians.
But I did make some online friends on there, people who have agoraphobia or anxiety disorder, and I follow quite a few aspies. We use it a bit like a chat room.
But anyway.

Well, I just now created an account.

@MathewShaw91

And to everybody who's shown me their account name, I'll take a look at yours. :)

I've been asking myself that same question.

Twitter rules.. So many interesting people use it, that you don't have to be interesting. I mostly lurk, but some times I post on celebrity pages and other people I enjoy watching on T.V., or internet and they respond... It's cool, but don't always expect a reply because more than often you won't get one.

That's interesting. Which celebrities have responded to you?
