"I'm so proud of being mom i need to have "<name>smom" as my nick because i need to tell the world I'm the mother of <name> which they of course don't have a clue of who is."

Anyone noticed this phenomenon?
Its not only on WP but other forums as well.

And before the war begins: this thread is not to be taken too seriously. So don't go amok

Yep. They clearly haven't thought about when their family gets larger though.

well, mine is because I happen to think TeeTee ( Tony my son who is nick named TeeTee by his baby sister whom he adores) is one of the greatest people on earth..that aside I chose this screen name because I am NT and wanted people to know it was my child who is the dx family member....

plus mean_bitch seemed to real to life and it would tell too much about me in a screen name. I guess you prefer names which are really just words used as a name..I could have gone with Mom, I guess....

In some circles, it is easier to identify yourself this way, because the most contact the people of that circle have is with your child.

So if I were to say Hi I'm Jessica, these people wouldn't know me at all.

BUT if I were to say Hi I'm Chris's mom...then they would know me right away.

Also, when you have a child, you become IMMENSELY proud of this little being that you are nurturing. It is easy to lose yourself in that warm and wonderful love.

My name is Agent79...because I like to be anonymous in most situations anyway.

I think I understand where you're going but still...
Please don't get me wrong I am not attacking any <names>smom members. I am just very curious because I've seen many incidents of it. So I'm thinking perhpaps its some mothers-instinct thing I don't know...
Just speculations...

Thanks for confirming my theory about mothers being proud of their children!
Besides, that is the only logical explanation I can come to.

What you said about people not knowing you as Jessica but as Chris's mom.

The thing that sparkles my curiousity is: WP is an internet community so there is very little chance anyone would know who Chris is, let alone Jessica.
So the "mothers-pride" theory is probably what its all about. I guess its a subconcious thing in mothers.

Revenant is just observing its curious how mom's here often make their user same "mom_of_jake" or "mom_of_elwood" or similar.

I think its ok because the user name tells me they are probably an NT parent of an AS kid. However if the kid is old enough to log on here, s/he may not want to see his mom posting about him.

Anonymity is a good thing.

My mum isn't a member on WP, but she was the one who nagged me into coming on here in the first place....

I don't remember "Mum_of_Quatermass" ever being here?

edit - I didn't notice you said she is not a member - that explains why I don't remember her

lol you all probably think I am a nutcase...

I notice such small things like that and I see repeated patterns. I obsess over such weird little things like that.

But I'm going to stick with the mothers-pride/mother-instinct theory since thats what I think makes most sense.

A personality test revealed that I am a "big thinker" :P

Aargh, forget it...

I never tried to dictate that nobody can have nicks like those or anything, i thought I made that clear in the initial post...

I just saw a repeating pattern on autism/disorder sites where i saw this <name>smum thing going on. And when I see patterns it sparkles my imagination.

So excuse me for sharing my thoughts then. You may delete this thread.
