I used to think the people singing MMMbop were girls. They sound like girls.

I never thought about it. I always thought the youngest looked like a girl.

One of my old grade school friends sung the MMM in MMMbop like it was a heavy metal song. XD

The very first time I heard that song, I thought that it was a bunch of girls singing it.

No, but I know the feeling.

I used to think that the chorus of Macklemore's Downtown was sung by a woman. Even after I'd seen the clip a few times. Turns out the singer is a weedy guy with a weedy moustache.

I saw the music vid the 1st time I heard the song & I thought the youngest was a girl. I didn't get upset when I found out he was a guy thou like Quagmire did on Family Guy.

There was enough hype surrounding Hanson that I always knew they were boys. But boys tend to sound like girls before their voices change.

On the other hand I used to think the Jackson 5 and even the Bee Gees were girls. Yes, I'm old.

This reminds me of that Mad TV spoof that showed Hanson as adult men. It was hilarious. Can someone put up a link? :)

Yes. And now I'm trying to get the song out of my head. But I keep forgetting they're not girls.

I heard MMMBop for the first time when I saw the video (I think on VH1?). I thought the middle one was a girl with her 2 brothers. :D

MMMbop was sung by the Children of the Corn.

The reason why they sound like girls is because the song was recorded in late 1995 so that would mean the boys were 10, 12, and 15. Since boys tend to hit puberty later than girls, their voices hadn't changed yet. Some boys voices don't change until later while my brothers changed around age 12. But early puberty seems common in my family.

I read somewhere that *boys* start puberty earlier than girls, and girl's voices change more gradually so it's not as easily noticed. A boy can sound like a kid one second and suddenly like an adult the next. I saw it on both The Wonder Years and with Homer on The Simpsons. :)
