Everything in the new world is bigger. :p
The house I grew up in was about 2500sf on a 9000sf lot and had a detached shop/garage in the back. The house I live in now is 3200sf on probably about 3000sf lot or so.
All of the detached houses in this area are approx 2700-3400sf. Neighbourhoods with a bunch of multi-generational family homes (and/or with basement suites) will easily be 5000-8000sf or so. In my area, it’s farmhouses that are mansions.. so many of them are 10,000-20,000sf and quite stunning. Some are kinda ugly, but most are rather impressive. If I haven’t travelled certain roads in a while and then drive/ride it and there’s a new farmhouse mansion or three to see it’s like “Holy crap, look at that place!” With some of them looking like they’re straight out of Scarface or something.
Of course there are townhouses (like row homes, but wood frame) and condos/apartments of all sizes with ever smaller units being built now.. but in general I think homes are larger here than in most parts of the world.
