Are sparkling drinks like champagne "women's drinks"?

Do you think that sparkling drinks such as champagne are "women's drinks"? This seems to be a common attitude in many countries, particularly conservative ones like Russia. In pop culture they're usually shown as being drank by women (particularly upper-class women). But I think it's ridiculous to pointlessly gender food and drink. Food and drink should be able to be enjoyed regardless of gender.

How would you react if you saw a man drinking champagne or some other sparkling drink?

I don't drink champagne, but I do enjoy a lot of sparkling non-alcoholic drinks.

I thought they give champagne to winners. Men like to feel like winners, don't they?

I do think that some portion of society considers sparkling alcoholic beverages to be consumed by women.

Those same people consider beer and hard liquor to be a man's drink, I've even gotten teased for drinking low carb beer. It seems some guys have strong opinions on what you should drink to validate your masculinity.

In my own personal opinion, drinks of whatever kind can be consumed by either gender. There's no rational reason why a man cannot drink champagne.

There's no reason that a woman can't drink hard liquor.

If I saw a man drinking Champagne or a different sparkling drink, I'd just assume he was out celebrating something big. I tend to associate it with New Year's or other big events rather than gender.

Personally I'm not a fan of Champagne.

Same. It wouldn't occur to me to think of champaign/sparkling drinks as feminine. I very much think it to be a celebration drink.

I have never understood why men think they have to eat and drink things that are foul-tasting, disgusting or even dangerous just to prove their masculinity.

I once had a woman tell me that a man should never order a drink with an umbrella in it. I just stared and said "why? Do they always poke you with the pointy end of the sticks?" She left me alone to enjoy my drink

I hate wine and champagne but can down a few whiskey sours, no problem.

No, but due to biology the costs of drinking harder stuff typically increases more quickly for women than for men. Drink sizes are designed for men, so typically the drinks do more damage and have more impact on women.

That's probably a huge part of why some drinks are "girl drinks" and others aren't.

Similar to other people in this thread, I view champagne as a celebration drink, not necessarily only drank by women, but by anybody.

Most people make their own drinks at home, so they size them accordingly.

In Australia men drink sparkling wines with a light lunch (usually outdoors)

If you are having canapes at an elite event then champagne is considered an appropriate accompaniment.

Otherwise sparkly drinks are "girly"

I buy my mum a bottle of champagne for her Christmas stocking every year, and another one out of the stocking that she opens straight away, then another for her birthday. My brother always has some but not me. Bleh!

So-called "girl drinks" tend to be just as strong as the drinks that aren't labelled that way.
