"the big picture" - surely everybody is with me on that one?
"There's nothing worse than..." - you cannot be serious!
"You can't do that." - clearly I think i can. If you mean I shouldn't?, Why?
"FFS! What are you doing?" - better... Obviously something you think I shouldn't.
"Grow up!" - this is about as grown up as I expect to get.

Sure it's life that handicapped people are discriminated against in 2024, but it doesn't have to be.

"Go touch grass" I'd like to go outside more often, but the weather and climate reeks and it's boring as heck anyway.

"Everyone makes mistakes" Humans need to learn not to make so many, which they'll never do and we'll all end up dead because of it.

"We're all in this together" this got insanely bad because of covid, and no, we were not all in it together. If anything it showed how humans refuse to tolerate each other because of their differences even more.

"In these uncertain times..."

Most of Fnord's examples irk me.

There's also "reach out to". Someone in an email wrote to me, "can you reach out to such-and-such...". In answer I wrote, "I contacted such-and-such...".

I can't even to what the Canadians do

I can't even do what people my age do as far as age realistic expectations

I can't even do what 21st Century people do

Can't stand, "you're not a mind reader" and "you can't make assumptions about people."

Does everybody just walk around taking everything they see and everything they hear at face value without a second thought?

"State of the art". I have no explanation for why I do not like this expression, it just is what it is. Has always bothered me for some reason.

Otherwise, no offense intended toward Christians, but recently I worked in a conservative Christian workplace where I saw these phrases all of the time. It was painful, it gave me second-hand religious trauma, I swear.

"washed by the blood of Jesus"
"consumed in the fire of the holy spirit"
"kingdom-minded"
"let no weapon formed against me prosper"
"by his stripes I am healed"

I am not ashamed to say those thing because I am not ashamed of the gospel.

A possible antidote to one expression.

I was kinda bothered by sis using yuppie expression "it is what it is" ...dont even know why.

But now, whenever I hear the expression I think of this SNL sketch. It builds up to...poor ole' Bin Laden having to use the expression. Now I laugh whenever I hear it.
