It's very high in sugar. Which is not necessarily terrible, but it's generally best to limit sugar intake.

That's why I drink the Zero Sugar stuff, so I can still enjoy my fizz.

No, it has zero sugar.

Soda is bad for you because it leeches minerals from your bones, this is an issue even if it's sugar free. This is a bigger concern for women and other AFAB people.

Pounding back a bunch of artificial sweeteners is bad for your metabolism. They're worse for you than just consuming sugar.

I heard fruit juice is even worse for you than pop, even 100% juice with no added sugar, because it has even more sugar and calories.

Fruit juice is also full of arsenic. :skull:

Fortunately, I don't drink much pop or juice. My eating habits are bad enough as it is, though.

Sugar free is arguably worse. The body prepares for the sugar before it gets to the stomach and then has to do a u-turn for the food that does show up.

It's best to just limit consumption.

No sugar there, but there is a difference between no sugar and no sugar added. No sugar added is usually the way to go when available.

All the sugar can contribute to diabetes.

True. And to make matters worse soda doesn't have much of anything to stop it from spiking your blood sugar levels or any sort of vitamins, minerals or other nutritional value to make up for it. An apple has a lot of sugar, but it also has things like fiber and antioxidants.

I can't tell if you're correcting me or not, but in Canada we call it pop and not soda. I don't know why, but we do.

Downunder soda refers only to soda water, (Carbonated water) and contains no sugars.

Sugar refers to a variety of substances, although generically refers to sucrose which is actually two different sugars bonded together...glucose and fructose. These are 2 of the 3 simple sugars (the other being galactose, which you don't often hear of)
Lactose (glucose + galactose) made from milk is the only sugar not generally derived from plants.
They can all have significant health effects of taken in excess...
You may baulk at putting 2 spoons of sugar in your coffee, yet a can of coke has at least 10.

I'm not going to start on sugar substitutes, many of which I consider worse due to different health effects.

Artificial sweeteners, but not pure sugar.
