Yes, I absolutely do. I am a screenwriter/musician
and I absolutely expect to sell my tv pilot very soon.
I've had it for over 10 years.
I've been to NYC and Los Angeles. I've invested a great deal of time, energy and money.

I simply cannot continue my current lifestyle where I survive on benefits.
I have not been realizing my potential.

The thing with the film/tv/screenwriting industry - in my experience it can be very difficult to break through.
I have very few contacts. I just re-listed my script on a website where you pay to list by the month.

I've been reluctant to do this because I've done so many times in the past with no result. My script has placed in a screenwriting contest. I was excited about that.

As a screenwriter you learn there are many people who offer consultant/editing services. I have definitely utilized some of these over the years. Yet at a certain point you have to have confidence in what you have and stop paying for these.
If you do, you'll go broke.

A lot of people will tell you your script isn't ready and that you lack experience. A lot of them also tell you your script isn't sufficient because they want you to fork over $100s of dollars for their consultative services. As I said, you have to at a certain point be happy with what you have or you'll go broke spending your money on opinions.

Anyways, I bit the bullet this morning and spent $30 to list my script on a website. I did not want to do this but decided to because I'm not getting any results. It's been on many websites in the past but not for a number of years. I am anticipating a sale. A major breakthrough. I don't anticipate renewing my 1 month membership. That means my script didn't sell.

I expect a major breakthrough because I deserve it.

YES Absolutely!! !

It's time!! !

The change is starting to take effect in the love life sector first...then that will probably cause a trickle-down effect to my job/career!

I want to be a famous celebrity or video game developer/composer but everything is a work-in-progress right now

You have to believe it.
You can have a breakthrough in any area in your life if you want it, I believe.

My breakthrough came late in life, first decent job. But I've always wanted money to start a business, be independent. Seem to be disappointed about money a lot.

I would design ideas for a project, then I'd be signed up for contract to implement it which meant being paid hourly for work. But if something went mishap the company keep my idea and not want to pay me off to dismiss. So buying my own house that was my stability didn't happen, I think a lot was sexism too.

Hope is not a strategy... I would advise cutting losses and moving to a lower cost of living area. History provides many examples of writers unappreciated in their own lifetimes. Lovecraft was one, he had modest success, but it did not pay the bills. He, too, moved to NYC and lived there a time, then when the money ran out, he retreated back to Providence, Rhode Island, to live with his aunts in the ancestral home.

Expecting a major breakthrough in life, simply because you feel as though you deserve that, doesn't seem like a particularly good strategy to achieve something.

I completely agree :wtg: It's better to focus more on short-term obtainable goals. It can be good to dream big but don't invest most of your energy, time, & effort into it at the expense of most everything else. The expression "Don't quit your day job" comes to mind.

I never expected to have a major breakthrough in life. I struggled with lots of things due to various disabilities & I do not have any special skills, talents, or strengths. I also never had any great connections that I could take advantage of. I have achieved various things in life that most others would easily achieve with a bit of effort & work. Very luckily I did have some various help to get there but me & my parents had to work hard to get me that help & overall the process was slow or stalled for large amounts of time.
My parents were poor when they got married but they worked very hard & gradually worked their way up to lower-middle class before retiring. They are real salt of the earth types & they never suddently got any major breaks.

Based on beliefs, I have found repeated taking all the little steps to prepare , as you become more successful .
Has benefitted myself over a period of years . To get where I was trying to get to.
A Analogy might be , stacking stones to build a platform to be able to reach someting placed higher out of reach.
As you go through the process of stacking stones, you might just go along , picking out the best stones to stack on top of each other . So they dont just fall over...People may call you crazy for collecting Rocks. Until they see that you can now reach the unreachable. Then you get both jeolous people and people whom might praise you .
Collecting of good associates that support you, And things that are material to build upon . Studying , the thing you are working towards so you know, which Rocks to collect . It can be a time consuming thing. But if you build a firm foundation , the Rocks will support you as you reach ,what can be reached by you . So long as people do not undermine your Rocks "just by the way."

Not any more, no. I used to, I think. But I've never had the drive to achieve much even though I think I have some talent in some creative areas that could have taken me...somewhere. So, it would have to be a random act of god that delivered me into a more comfortable/fulfilling life. And I don't believe in god. So I think a very unremarkable, low-achievement life is the most likely for me.

I tend to agree. Apart from cases in which the individual has been underestimating their potential, I don't think that kind of "let's think positive" approach achieves much at all. I think most of us already know roughly what our chances are at getting this or that, and usually plan and work according to such reasoning.

But what do I know? There has to be some reason behind the way (for example) football teams subject themselves to pre-match brainwashing sessions in which they get convinced that they can't lose. Just that personally I can't understand how it could achieve a damn thing. Maybe it's something to do with neurotypical psychology that I don't understand. Or maybe deepdown most of us have such a negative view of ourselves that those little "energising" rituals actually work.

As for deserving a breakthrough, I don't know what that even means. Maybe that's because I'm strongly atheist and don't believe that anybody in the sky has a plan to reward me for all the effort I put in that nobody else notices. If I get a breakthrough, it'll be down to my having carried out prudent plans to achieve that breakthrough, plus a bit of what we call good luck. I only say that I deserve things as a sarcastic device which is intended to parody the unrealistic egocentricity of a large swathe of the human race.

So, strive for your goals by all means. I wish you success, but I would urge you to stay objective and not to expect too much of irrational mantras and magical thinking. Figure out what you can realistically expect to achieve, and what you can't.

I have had major breakthroughs before. What I learned is that it is often better to keep it to yourself if you can. People often get jealous when someone else succeeds before they do at something. It is best to go undercover and not seek attention. Trust me on this one.

Expectation is important. Are you saying to expect to not breakthrough?
Does that seem like a good strategy?

Excellent point. When you broadcast your goals, you open yourself up to anyone and everyone to have an opinion.
Not everyone is aligned with your goals. Actually, most people don't care and can find someone ambitious to
make them feel threatened or insecure.
