It may have been asked and answered before, but I can't see it.

Does anyone know what the 5 white boxes are around where people have their avatar are for, and why some peoples are filled in with a blue border, and some are blank?

It's related to the number of posts you have. When you go beyond a certain number (1,000?), the boxes disappear and you get to make up your own "rank".

And use them all for cat houses.

ya never know when a good box will come in handy and of course you have to have varying sized and then a variety of thickness, some light some strong - and non-printed ones are best but you may just have to have printed ones if it an exceptionally good box - ones with the handles are good too but not ones with seperate lids cause they get lost --- and pretty ones you just can not throw out -- ones that sing when you open the lid are cool but can get tiresome - and the ones with partitions are handy - I did not know you can get a degree in box making.

I don't think my cats would appreciate living in a cardboard box :O

I was thinking we were talking about real boxes as well. I wanted to add that gumboots are cool too... :P

I like the fact that it eventually turned into that...

My (NT) dad is an obsessive box-saver. We can't even park a car in the garage anymore because it's filled with the boxes of everything we've ever bought since we moved in back in '99.

I have a hard time throwing away boxes to things.
I still have the box to my computer monitor that I bought about 5 years ago sitting wedged on top of the hanger railing in my closet. Nearby are the boxes to my air conditioner (although it actually is holding it, just not packed correctly), air humidifier, and a half dozen other boxes that I can't recall right now. There are probably at least a dozen boxes in our garage. I don't know why we bother to keep them there as they get moldy within a year.

Well, there we are - I have modified the thread title to reflect the discussion....

I rarely seem to throw a box away. They seem like they will be useful. I still have most of the ones I brought home from work when I moved house in late 2006. Some of the ones at work are poorly designed - they are too thin, and the handles rip under its weight, causing the box to open. Others are great. Give me a thick, sturdy box any day.

Thinking inside, outside, alongside, in spite of the box topic

What about Boxer dogs? Boxer shorts? There was a band called The Box in the 80s, and another one called Boxtops in the 50s. Does anyone save boxtops anymore? You could mail them in when an offer was on a cereal box and get all sorts of boxy things.

Jewellery boxes. Box lunch. Lunch box. Box your ears. Boxing gloves. Boxing Day.

But not Botox. This does not count.

Ever seen a box kite? Do not forget music boxes. Cat litter box. Tool box. Truck box

Make robots out of boxes. Ship anything in a box. Send it to a post office box.

Put a check mark in the box. Pack your own boxes. Nesting boxes. Cake box, butter box Opening up a box of worms! (Really a can, but I took the liberty here.) Bone box, or ossuary. Recycling box. Toy box. A pill box for what ails ya, and a pill box is a weapon. Pencil box. Ice box. Bed in a box. Stand on a soap box and rant. Soap box derby, too. Boxcars on a train. Storage Box. If I become homeless, what the heck, I will go live in a box. Jack-in-the-box. Jerk in the penalty box. Box boy or girl.Carboard box, steel box, cash box. You name-it-and-we-have-it-box. Box board.

The box says shut up, Steve! But Sartresue will not!

The Box does not stop here!! !! ! Oh, no, that is not all!

This is a really useful word! Very boxy. Sell it on E-box!

One of mine does. Give her a box (even one too small for her) and she's sitting/crouching/trying to fit in it.
