I'm sure the people are just people, but I heard the Chinese government is pretty horrible.
It can be. But there again so can any government. The problem with communism is they have to be heavy handed with anyone who is percieved as being different, otherwize communism would eventually collapse.
The democracy of the western world has been severly erroded over the last 30 years through implamenting communistic ideals into the education system as a way to make peace and form a one world global government system. Such a system can't work through democracy so has to be governed through communism disguised as democracy. In other words, they may keep the democratic elections, but whoever will be voted in has to be confined to communistic rules. One of the traits of communism is the gradual errosion of the freedom of speech.
It shows how in just a few generations a government system can change through education. It is basically how Russia became a powerful communistic country, and the methods employed in the European and North American education systems tend to mostly have adpoted the communistic ideals which were developed and refined out of marxism. In the UK these paths were adopted during the latter half of the 1980's where they changed the whole education system under the then new GCSE exam and reward system where standards were successively lowered (The first year was messed up as the standards were actually higher then the old O level system) so pupils could achieve high marks for less effort. (It still requires effort). The reason why this was done is because the shift went off educating students to brainwashing them. Brainwashing techniques need a more regular pupil attendence, so holiday times were shortened and an effort was made to stop pupils skipping lessons. The previous system was different in the way teachers taught the lessons. Teacher training was rare under the old system and the system was kept in order using, or threatening the use of physical discipline. With the modern system the requirement for constant teacher training is needed, as the teachers themselves need to come under the brainwashing techniques. Also under the new regime, the use of physical discipline was replaced by the reward system the same way one would train ones dog by giving the dog a biscuit when the dog complies with ones command.

Yeah... I think American democracy is starting to fade and communism will probably win. It scares me. Especially because I feel like I'm too confused to truly understand what is happening.

Scares me to because those of us who are percieved to be different become targets, especially if we are percieved to be intelligent. One thing I will say. Always question. Never take anything one sees on the TV news at face value. Start to learn how to question. It does not take great intelligence to question. It just takes a mindset.
You are intelligent Twisty. I have noticed that. You may struggle in certaing areas, but in other areas you are excellent. But ovverall I say not to panic if you see thigs happening. Just learn how to understand and how to sift and question everything... Through doing this you will get to see the truth and avoid the pitfalls that many fall into.
We are blessed with minds that think in different ways, so we are not so easy to manipulate. And that's a good thing.

It is overall. Costs more though. I usually get fish tacos at Taco Time. I think Taco Del Mar is even better. I usually only get the 3 taco supreme meal at Taco Bell.

I skimmed it MG but it's a lot to take in! Sociology became a popular subject to take as part of a joint degree in the 90's. I'll say something random.
Many people think that it is necessary to cross the Alps when travelling from France to Italy. It is however, possible to travel from Lyon in France, all the way to Palermo in Sicily, with no more than 11,500 meters of elevation gain, over a route of approximately 24,000km. , and that's roughly half as hilly as travelling from Lands End to John o'Groats, here in the UK.
[quote]Local legend has that the "o' Groats" refers to John's charge of one groat for use of his ferry, but it actually derives from the Dutch de groot, meaning "the large". People from John o' Groats are known as "Groaters".[quote] John o' Groats - Wikipedia
