"God has judged" is basically what "Daniel" means, though it can also mean "judgment of God". Dan means "judgment" or "he that judges", and the "-el" refers to God. In my middle name, Michael, there are two morphemes: micha and el. These come from Hebrew also, where "micha" or "mika" means "Who?" and "el" is "God", which means "Who is like God?".

Well, I wasn't thinking about that. I find your aversion rather peculiar. Sorry, I said I'd stop bugging you. XD
I don't feel bugged at all. I just hate my name, that's all. :)

Oh, okay. Well don't! It's cute.
Not when you've been called degoratory terms derived from various names of genitalia which rhymes with shortforms of your name throughout your childhood. I like your name though. It has a good, female sound. :)

:( Can't say I've ever experienced that. My name isn't very changeable. XD My sister attempted to call me "sprayla" (in reference to cat spray) when we were younger, but that was it. XD
Thanks, glad to know it sounds female. :P

Gabriel means, "God is my strength". Every name derived from Hebrew with "-el" at the end refers to God in some manner.

Im slipping , as I forgot Gabriel is also mentioned in 'Daniel'( in the Hebrew Scriptures), hence the syntax. :thumright:

Yeah, like the Americans' name "Bo", and similar to the word "bow"! ;)
How did you know it was French already? Do you learn the language or do you like to read up on origins of names as a hobby?

My given name is April but I have very developed characters that I write stories about. I was the kid who they always put on the back of my report card...."April daydreams too much!".....I also got that I didnt "apply" myself, always thought that was funny!

My characters are

Andrea
Ailish
Alice
and
Caerulea

If I ever finish a book (I hate endings) and get published...Ill let you guys know :P
Nice! I usually use very typical, anonymous, names for the few characters in my short stories. You see, people aren't important in mine, their experiences are, and the ordeals I put them through. :)

Its kind of like that for me too but I think that all of my characters are splinters of myself....even my male characters. My husband says he likes my writing because Im so visual that I basically write what I see and I am able to allow others to see to. Thats really exciting to me because I always wanted to include others in my world but didnt know how to do it. I also give a lot of credit to my fifth grade teacher (my one teacher that really took me under her wing and helped me) she always made a big deal out of my writing and told me that I had a very unique view of the world.

That it is Leila! Words with "eau" in them can immediately leap out at you as something of French origin... heheheh, "beau" means "good-looking".
