According to my mom, I am "obsessed with being obsessed". In other words, I am consumed by my lack of a special interest. When I first lost my passion for my last special interests in the spring of this year, I was devastated. Throughout the entire summer I was so desperate for a new special interest that it felt like I was driving myself insane over it. My mom told me at different times that I didn't act like myself at all. It got so bad that I even considered going to therapy for it.

What finally snapped me out of it was my mom basically telling me that I have no idea when I'm going to die and I could spend the rest of my life (however long that might be) worrying about not having a special interest when I could have spent that time enjoying my life. She and my brother both told me that instead of worrying about needing to obsess over one or two things, that I should instead have multiple interests of a lesser intensity. They said that I should basically "live in the moment" by enjoying whatever I happen to enjoy no matter how long it lasts.

Overall, I must say that their advice has really worked. I mean, yeah, there are still fleeting moments of sadness every now and again, but it's nowhere near the soul-crushing sense of emptiness and desperation that I felt earlier this year. I do worry sometimes about falling back into that state of mind again, since I never really gave up on my search for a special interest and I am concerned that it could overtake me again.

I'm currently still obsessing over Asperger's, but I am trying to get other things done too. Right now, my cars are causing no small amount of chaos in my life and I am trying to work through that, as well as trying to reorganize my life into something more manageable. By the end of this month, I will have two usable vehicles and by the end of next month I hope to push that number to three. Come December, I am going to try and get close to having a fourth operable so two cars can be sold. In January, I am hoping I can get back on track with college with a life that will then be far more manageable with less distractions.

I have just finished two printable catalogues of coats of arms of every Finnish or Swedish municipality.(*) For the moment, I'm not quite sure what I will start next, unless I go back to one of my previous projects, like read the whole Bible together with several verse-for-verse commentaries.

(*) The Swedish term kommun isn't easily translated into English. It's not quite the same as commune. Anyway, it is an administrative unit large enough to have their own coat of arms displayed above the entrance to the government building.
