Today I learned that it got very cold in our fridge. I have a pitcher of tap water there because cold water is delicious, and this morning I was gonna refill it, so I emptied the few remaining drops in the sink - and out fell a chunk of ice! That was surprising.

The Eiffel Tower was almost relocated to Canada in 1967.

The Dumbo octopus is a creature that lives deep below the ocean's surface and gets its name from the fins on its body that look like the ears on the famous cartoon elephant.

There sure are a lot of weird, creepy and fascinating animals that live deep in the ocean.

When I look at things in retrospect, it makes more sense to me why I did things that I did.

I learned that one of my knees is so badly damaged that only a knee replacement will fix it. However I am reluctant to have that done as it takes a year to heal and I would be worried about falling and breaking my hip. Surgeon was very nice and said let's review it in 6 months, we don't need to do anything unless the pain becomes intolerable if you don't want to, and some of the pain can be controlled with steroid injections if I want that. Meantime oral painkillers still work reasonably well, that's the silver lining in this cloud.

let me share my story, I've survived since my lumbar region went out on me in '15, on a combo of curcuminoid extract buttressed with black pepper extract [synergistic combination], 5-lox inhibitor [derived from an extract of frankincense], exercises to strengthen the muscles around the joints, low-acid dietary regimen [reduces systemic inflammation]. my knees sometimes decide to go on a work-stoppage as well, and I wrap them with a tight ace wrap which enables me to get by. I am hoping that a similar regimen may help you.

I appreciate your experience and advice, thanks AB. Can you explain what the last thing you mentioned is? (Is that a kind of brace or a USA brandname? Or both of these?)

I am definitely going to try out these kinds of suggestions.

I can really work out a lot of things for myself just by posting on WP.

I learned that two people who live on my street are on the autism spectrum (diagnosed). It may be possible that I am another, although I haven't been formally diagnosed. The more I look back on my life, pretty unspectacular up to this point, the more I'm convinced I'm on the spectrum. My profile of strengths, interests and deficiencies definitely point in that direction.

I learned that I could take the E-train all the way to World Trade Center, and still be near my library job.

I don't have to change for the A, which sometimes takes 5 or more minutes to come, and aggravates me no end.

It's also a nice walk through City Hall Park, and I pass right by City Hall.

I'd only do it if I'm not in a rush, though.

Ace bandages are a tight elastic wrap you can wrap around knees and other articulating joints to support them. you can
vary the tension when you wrap the knees or other things, to suit what you need for support. you don't leave them all on the time, just when you need them like when you're walking any major amount. for a knee, either a 4' or 6' wrap is appropriate. I use a 4" and I cascade it up and down the knee so the whole region is supported. if you can't bend the knee when wrapped, then it is too tight or voluminous so loosen it and spread it out a bit. depending on the particular knee issue you have, a Levine Knee Strap sometimes also is useful.

Some people have a rare condition where they get drunk just from eating bread and other grain products because the yeast in it doesn't pass through their digestive system properly. Instead it just stays inside them and makes them intoxicated, even if they never drink alcohol. Apparently it's caused by a severe imbalance of healthy bacteria in the gut, but it can be treated with probiotics and a low-carb diet.

i read that, according to the timing principals of Ayurvedic medicine, it could also be ameliorated via not eating carbs together with proteins and fats, they should be eaten separately [at least an hour gap, with the carbs eaten first] because separate sets of stomach enzymes/acids deal with fats, proteins and carbs. if you eat the carb right with the other two, they will be delayed in their digestion [proteins and fats take far longer to digest, and what you end up with [a pun ;) ] is either delayed digestion of carbs [fermentation in gut] or incomplete digestion/motility of proteins and fats which could result in putrefaction in the gut of one or the other.

lostonearth,

I saw a program on the medical channel about a person who had that condition. He was arrested for DUI even though he didn't drink any alcohol.

After the bombing of Pearl Harbor in 1941, Canada declared war on Japan before the US did.

When in doubt, don't have those Hershey's sundae pies for dessert at Burger King. My goal is to gradually shrink my order to 1 Whopper and no pies. I was doing so well not ordering the 2 small pies. What happened. I'll make an effort not to order the pies next time. Maybe I wanted some extra change for the baby bottle drive that my church is doing for Hope for Women.
