I love that you have an antimacassar.
They remind me of my grandmother.
She used to crochet elaborate antimacassars in the shape of a fan.

I love the word antimacassar

I'm not sure whether they would pass as antimacassars as they're not lace.

Macassar oil was what men used to wear in their hair.
So an antimacassar was originally a defender against hair oil stains.

If I'm sounding like an autistic twat right now it's because I am.

I didn't know that's what it meant.

Raleigh beat me to it, but Ill post it anyway.

There was a Rowland's Company in Britain that made something called "macassar oil" for your hair. So if you were a Victorian greaser with macassar oil in your hair you tended stain up folks' upholstered furniture. Hense the need for sleeves of cloth to protect arm rests and the heads and back of upholstered chairs. And they came to be called "antimacassars".

Just gleaned that from the internet just now. Had no idea how it got that name til now.

Yeah...some words are just cool words. Fun to say. Like "gazebo", "high chapparelle", "Wynona Ryder" , and "Babylonian Talmud".

A mobster was shot to death in 1952 ...in a barber shop...while seated in the barber chair.

His name was Arnold Anastasio.

And the perps were the infamous Genovasi Gang.

Both the perp and the vics had such...lovely melodic names! :D

Why couldnt the doctor who discovered asperger's syndrome have a cool name like that?
