I tried the app a couple of times, but it's not for me. Personally, I found it unsatisfying. There's no real conclusion to the videos. So of course you keep scrolling. That's the idea.
However, I noticed that when I looked back on the time I had spent in the app, I didn't recall what I had witnessed. Yet I had spent hours, scrolling through the feed. It made me wonder - what am I actually getting out of this experience?
So I deleted the app. I haven't felt the need to go back. I think I would rather go watch a film, listen to a Podcast or read a book. Such activities feel more actively engaging in my opinion.
There’s a lot of people that cannot stand the app just like you (myself included). What really concerns me is the impact to attention spans that that app has and the massive amount of fast content online. A constant, quick stream of content completely erodes your ability to stay focused. I volunteer teach 3rd and 4th graders and some of them cannot stay still and watch a 15minute video. (It was not a boring video, it was meant for children and the other students were watching it just fine.) I’m not expecting them to have pristine behavior, they’re young, but it’s how quickly they became bored that concerns me.
Also that app is a breeding ground for so many awful things especially its romanization of mental illnesses which is definitely impacting impressionable teens.
