I got my female Popplio after about an hour of soft resetting. She's Hardy (

She's so pretty,
Going off Primarina's base stats, Modest and Calm natures would work well. It's understandable settling though, given how long it takes to go through all that dialogue per reset. Hardy's not bad though, since you're not missing out on Primarina's great special attack and special defense.

Oh lord, that AGES ago -- Gold and Silver, the first games with the shiny mechanic were released like in what... 2001? So that's over a decade and a half ago.
But it appears not all luck is lost, as I finally got my shiny Popplio after nearly 34 hours of resets in half-hour to 1-hour increments across 9-ish days. It's a terrible nature (Naughty), but screw it -- Bieber has graced me with his shiny sealy presence. My hands were shaking the moment I saw him appear on my screen. It just makes all this effort worth it, and kicks off 2017 on a high note.
jesus h.w. christ, making it sound like 2001 is so far back, and that's just the beginning of my living memory.
*long tirade about the unrelenting passage of time*
congratulations.
i know basically nothing about pokemon, so if you don't mind me asking what effect does nature have?
That was actually Junior year of high school for me at that point, so I personally find it weird to refer to it as a long time ago, but I gotta keep it real -- that amount of time is significant.
And thanks! That extra sparkle makes the effort worthwhile.
As for natures...

In short: natures are personality traits that affect stats. Like if you have one that's hasty, then he/she will have a really high speed stat. Naughty, quirky, serious, and hardy don't do anything to improve your stats at all.
to expand on this, there are 25 personality traits in all, which affect 2 of the 5 stats a pokemon comes with (Attack, Defense, Special Attack, Special Defense, and Speed, with HP being omitted), boosting one by 10% at the cost of lowering another by 10%. 5 of these natures (mentioned above, except omit Naughty, and add in Docile and Bashful) actually wind up boosting and reducing the same stat, which is why those end up doing nothing. Unfortunately for me, my Popplio ended up being Naughty, which boosts Attack at the cost of lowering Special Defense, so essentially mine is taking a hit on one of its better stats to increase one of its worse ones, but it's shiny so I can't really complain.
