I've been to California, and Nevada. They are hot. But the UK isn't built for heat. We don't have air conditioned houses. Lots of cars don't have air conditioning either. So when it gets up to 30 degrees and above we can't cope. I remember it being particularly hot in 2003, when thousands of people in France died from heat related conditions. We're just not set up for it.

Anyway today is pleasant.

The highest temperature today has been 24.8
It is currently 23.3
Very sunny

And my neighbour is banging and crashing around in his garden like he is every Sunday.
And I am indoors hiding from the noise like I do every Sunday.

I was in London a few years ago when there was an exceptional heat wave, I remember the tarmac on the streets actually melting because they weren't designed for that sort of heat...

Yes that happens fairly often. My childhood memories seem to be full of melting tarmac.

The trains probably stopped running too, they can't cope with any 'oddness' in the weather. They stop running in autumn winds (leaves on the line), winter (wrong kind of snow), ice, summer heat, spring rain. We're a bit crap as a country really...

Last month broke a 50-year record for the highest average June temperature: 88.6 F. Five daily high records were also set: 106 on June 14, 108 on June 17 and 18, 107 on June 24, and 105 on June 25, but we did not beat the record June high temperature of 110 at the official monitoring station.

I don't think it has done my attitude any good.

An average June temperature of 31!
The average June here is about 17 (63) :P

Edit: Though, is that for both daytime and night time?

That's the average of high and low temperatures for each day of the month. We've had low's in the mid 70s, most nights, and the temperature has only been below 80 from about 4-8 a.m.

I'm in Las Vegas and it's 42C with a slight breeze out of the east. Slightly overcast as well.

But you do notice that in low humidity regions such as deserts the highest temperatures in the world are reached, and in high humidity areas like the rainforests around the equator, the temperature is much lower, but the humidity makes it feel much more hotter than it is.

13 (55) here, just after midnight - 73% humidity and wind is non-existant.

When it's not super hot but muggy, the dewpoint is a much better measure for how uncomfortable it feels. I find a dewpoint of 10C or less very comfortable. 15C feels a little muggy if there isn't a breeze or you're moving around a lot. Anything above 20C feels like you are walking into a warm wet washcloth the minute you step out of an air-conditioned building. 25C is about the absolute worst it can get in the Midwestern US or in the tropics.

However I think places in the desert near a hot body of water are the worst in the world as far as heat AND humidity going together. I know I've heard that the Persian Gulf off of Kuwait is more horridly humid than even the steamiest jungle. I've also heard that Southeast Asia can be really hot AND humid in the season right before the onset of the monsoon rains.

It's not too humid in nola right now...i think. I'm not too sure what it feels like without humidity. Rainy and windy.
