So it does not get the nutrients from dirt, does it get it from the tree or in your case from the wood shavings, sounds like an interesting plant nice to look at too. Just reminded me of this flower that I had once wich you can actualy eat the sweet sticky stuff inside, cant remember a name though.

yes, they pick up nutrients where they can, in house they dont need much,
just a tiny dash of a special orchid-fertilizer once a month. They`re good at
getting the most out of a little. More precisly, they grow on the moss that
covers the branches.

Oh, and they bloom every 6 months (if you are lucky) inbetween they just
look like a stick sticking out of the pot with some leaves at the bottom. I`m
a little off saying they dont like water, because they want humidity in the air,
but they dont like to stand in water or anything like that

Well atleast it is not a few seconds every 20 years, they look pretty enough, how would the seeds get on the trees. So the seed grows without having to be buried?

They fall from the plant into the moss and start there, or via
birds etc.

In house its hard to start orchids from seeds.
Found this text that explains it well:
""Orchid seeds require a symbiotic fungus to germinate, and it can take
anywhere from 3 to 5 years from germination before a resulting plant blooms""

But you get a certain satisfaction once you have done it though.

Indeed - i have never started them from seeds, but would like
to give it a shot. Plan on making a little corner custom made for
orchids, they dont like the regular livingroom air.

Most I have done was things like growing seeds in cotton when I was a kid, and I did some wheat in a class garden, but my group did not groe much.

Just about every plant I've ever touched has probably died.

I'm glad I should never have to move again. For some reason everything being moved out of it's proper place scares me.
