i accidentally found this on youtube and i became engrossed and watched all 8 parts.

he was such an idiot, and his wife was very much smarter than he was, and yet she was not smart enough to predict that there would be camera's trained on the audience that were "rolling" at all times, and ready to be switched to at the directors discretion. the whole scheme was woefully incompetent. the silly "major" tried his best to muddle his way through the motions of his personally imagined facsimiles of credibility, but he was insufferably stupid, and even before the show ended, many people were "on to him".
i find this documentary amusing in a slightly comedic way.

this series is very compelling to watch for me.
i will try to post all 8 segments in order (it will be a chore)
it is about 74 minutes.

when i was a small child, my father had a ford fairlane with a 390 cid V8, and it was the car he liked the best, and i adored it. i was not interested in the other cars.

it was a very powerful car. it was a 1969 model, and advancements in design were made every year, and automotive evolution progressed.
here is a picture of the exact model of australian fairlane we had. i very much liked our fairlane.
we also had a mercedes and at one point a rolls royce, but the crude and simple fairlane was the car i felt was most capable.

my father was almost always able to have his way in the fairlane.

this following clip is of a fairlane like ours (except for the fake scoop on the bonnet, and the mag wheels and dual exhausts).
our fairlane was just as powerful as this one on take off, but it was not as noisy, because we had only one exhaust pipe.

this is a contest between a turbocharged high performance 2008 model dodge with electronic ignition etc, against an old fairlane with a fake air scoop and mag wheels.

there were many times when my father assumed the outside lane at the lights, and then tramped on the accelerator to get back into the middle lane before colliding with parked cars.

he usually won, and this clip is the closest i will ever come to be able to show how.

it seems to me that the old fairlane may have been faster in that contest , however it is possible that the dodge caught up in the end.

This was a mini-scandal here in the UK about ten years ago. I think the most amusing part for me was this: who the feckity feck names their child 'Tecwen'? They were onto a loser from thereon in, I think. THe Major did become a minor celebrity of sorts for a time though.

My contribution - The Piper of Dundee (as performed by a flute band):

I should point out that ITV1 actually re-ran the entire episode after the trial was all done and dusted. One of the ads during each part of the show was for cough medicine.
