Actually..its more interesting than that.

Einstein's theory of General Relativity, in its rough draft form, actually predicts that the Universe began at a singularity and then expanded to its present size (ie started with a big bang) as a logical outgrowth of his merging of energy and matter and how matter warps space.

But everyone back then "knew" that the Universe was static and couldn't be expanding. So Einstein, and his mathematician partners, fixed his theory by adding a mathematical mechanism to it that stops expansion. That mechanism was called "the cosmological constant".

Then a few years later, in the Twenties, the astronomer Hubble discovered the redshift of other galaxies, which indicated that the Universe does indeed appear to be expanding thus proving that Einstein had it right the first time, and that (as Einstein himself said) his cosmological constant add on to it was his "biggest blunder".

A study found that people who enjoy doing laundry are less likely to experience sock loss.

I am learning two new serves, the slice and kick serve, in tennis. I'm not too good at either yet, but this was the first time I did them. I never believed I could actually play tennis, but I'm enjoying it.

You have to be a retired letter carrier to live in Nalcrest, Florida. Ironically, the town does not have mail delivery service.

Not really a fact but I learnt that I can enjoy Jane Austen movies. This is quite strange as I'd boxed myself into being the sort of person who didn't.

During World War II, a flight sergeant named Nicholas Alkemade survived a fall from 18,000 feet (5,500 m) without a parachute, suffering only a sprained leg.

Antimatter is the opposite of matter. It has the same mass but with an opposing electrical charge. One theory about why antimatter exists was developed by John Wheeler and Nobel laureate Richard Feynman based on the idea that physical systems should be time-reversible. For example, the orbits of our solar system, if played backwards, should still obey all the same rules as when they are played forwards. This led to the idea that antimatter is just ordinary matter going backwards in time, which would explain why antiparticles have an opposite charge, since if an electron is repelled while going forwards in time, then backwards in time this becomes attraction

It isn't that I'm a woman which is keeping me asleep or that it's cold in this room. It's the cat. She's waking me at 7, I'm thinking it's 5, my body's thinking it's five, I'm going back to sleep and waking at 10.

As if she wasn't annoying me enough already...
