Wow. We all have so many odd stories. I think 2 is your lie.

Nope. It’s #1. I didn’t know he went to Baruch College for 3 years until the time when I, myself, was graduating from college.

He also downplayed the (semi) fame of my Great Uncle Max.

I'm proud of your accomplishments, regardless of his attitude and your semi-famous great uncle.

Notes about my maternal grandfather (I don't think I've mentioned him yet)

1. His father was fifth generation British, but his mother was Spanish. He had dark, curly hair like Errol Flynn and a wonderfully Spanish complexion.

2. He was an aerospace engineer who also won many awards for swimming and running races.

3. He was a pyromaniac who would light fires and zip away on his bicycle, before following the fire engines to the scene.

4. He emigrated to, and spent his last few years in Spain, caring for his elderly aunt.

(one lie)

I botched mine. Was going to make the France bit of number 2 the part lie, as it was Ireland then changed my mind. Got quoted before I had time to change it. :D

Either way. 1 is true.

2 is true. I was too naive to understand much but one happened that trip, the other came to stay with him after in London and had an affair with him then. I remember the holiday being full of odd vibes as we picked them up and they stayed on with us - sleeping in "family" rooms for the best part of 2-3 weeks.

3 is my lie. He did take me to nudist beaches but I minded terribly. Forcing him to be clothed and complaining a lot.

Thanks, I think most of us have fairly irratic childhoods one way or another. It certainly made a lot of male-female interactions appear very shallow and transparent to me from an early age and made me very aware of what I did not want in a man. And also, it made me think women were fairly gullible and easily led!

I am going to guess 3 for you. But it would add a wonderful quirk to him if it were true!

1. My dad is now engaged to one of my former students.
2. I introduced them with his promise that he would not date her.
3. I don't like her much.

1 and 2 are true.

3 is true :) He was a pyromaniac and continued lighting fires well into adulthood (albeit, nothing terribly dangerous or costly). FUN!! ! 8)

My lie was 4. He didn't emigrate to Spain. He and my grandmother emigrated to California after my mother was born. My grandmother became a fashion model. My mother's younger siblings were all born in America. My mother moved back here when she met my father.

3 is indeed my lie. I think she is absolutely brilliant.

Enjoy your movie.

Nice grandfather Isabella, he sounds like quite the character.

Whoa, wait. I missed this one. That's crazy. We're all crazy. Isn't life grand? :D

He certainly was. Unfortunately, I didn't know him well because he was in California while I was growing up. We visited once a year. I was really attached to my father's side of the family because I knew them so much better (and they were aspie, 8) ). I moved to California for a while as a teenager but my grandfather was already in his final stages of cancer by that point. I love hearing all these stories from people!

Spain....

1. The first place I visited in Spain was cadaques. Over the years my dad and I must have gone back 10 odd times or so. As a teenager I used to sit outside the casino drinking bourbon in the afternoon whilst studying for my A level exams being dark and gloomy.

2. We had a friend there, who owned a bar, who used to be the errand boy for Salvadore Dali and had several of his quick sketches from when he put in his food orders.

3. One time my dad got severely beaten up by a local gang. To this day, one of the most horrifying things I have ever seen are the photos he took of his face afterwards.

Oh my goodness. Wow. They all sound too shocking to be false. I was proposed to by a Spanish hotel manager who drank bourbon. I'd known him three days. Maybe you and I were meant to meet?

The Dali thing is fascinating despite the fact Dali always gave me the creeps (hugely prefer Magritte).

3 sounds true, especially given your dad's "hobbies".

I think your lie is 2, for lack of any intuition otherwise.
