I suppose it's this Botanical Gardens of sorts. No, I'm not a botanist or one whom knows a great deal about flowers or plants but, to me such places always helps me to relax and not feel bothered by memories or things rather of an unpleasant nature shall I say..

There's a few special places I liked whenever I needed to get away.

I used to live in Boston and I would occassionally go to Walden Pond and hike the surrounding trails. I usually tried to go during off-peak times because I liked the solitude.

There was a spot on the CA coastline off Pacific Coast Highway by the Los Angeles/Ventura county line I used to frequent. I could pull off the shoulder about 100 feet or so from the highway. There was a big berm at the edge. I could climb over the berm and sit on the other side. The berm blocked out the traffic noise and I was left with a great view of the Pacific Ocean. That was one of my all-time favorite places. Unfortunately, there was a particularly strong El Nino storm several years ago that pretty much ate away most of that area.

I also like visiting Japanese gardens. I find them very peaceful and relaxing. I like the traditional style Japanese garden with the koi fish in a pond, wooden bridges, large-scale bonzai trees, etc. Here's a picture of the one I visit in CA whenever I visit:

I would like to visit the Concentration Death Camps in Europe...such a horrific reminder of how evil Hitler truly was.

DarrylZero, there's a Japanese garden in Seattle you'd love, if you ever go there. Near the Lake Washington Arboretum. They have HUGE koi.

My favorite place is Seattle generally. The city has lots of spots I love: Local Color café on the market, Denny Blaine beach, Viretta Park, Alki Beach, Waterfall Garden Park, the basement café at Elliott Bay Books, the internet level at the public library, Linda's on East Pine, Tully's on the Hillclimb...I used to love the Crocodile Café as a place to hang and peoplewatch, but it closed for a while and was refurbished and I'm not sure what it's like now. I hope they haven't tarted it up too much, because I kind of liked it scuzzy.

activebutodd, you have a point. I've lived all my life in small towns and villages, and the thing of everyone wanting to know everyone else's business can be stifling. I prefer cities (a much more varied range of people, and more anonymity if you want it) but I also like being near nature and the ocean. Hence the thing about Seattle.
