1. Watching TV at home (it was around 11PM-12AM on a Friday; I can't believe I remember that)

2. I came home after doing something (I don't remember what); found out on evening news.

3. I was asleep on the couch at my parents' house (there was no air conditioner in my room), and I watched everything right there with them. I actually had been there less than a year before; the first place I went to on my first trip to New York was to the observation deck there at the WTC.

4. I was driving my sister from Columbia back to Chapel Hill after a visit to the University of South Carolina; she ended up going to the School of Social Work there; heard about it on NPR.

1, 2 and 4: I can't remember as they made no impact whatsoever. Probably in the living room not really listening to the evening news.

3: The morning paper that day had the main head line "Valgthriller in Oslo" (Election thriller in Oslo). The day before was election day and accidentally the last time I bothered to vote (unrelated to this though). I smiled thinking the head line dramatic. Who cares that much for politics??
I was sitting on my bed feeding my beloved Nemo when the 15 O Clock news was on the radio. A plane had crashed into the WTC. Laughingly I called to my mother: "A plane has crashed into the WTC!" I thought it a bit funny because what are the odds of crashing into those distinct buildings?! Then I thought of that and realised the odds and that it likely wasn't a freak accident.
There was an eye witness report about "black smoke billowing".

When my pet had eaten I went into the living room and turned on CNN. Now they talked about two planes. Soon they talked like the entire fleet of planes were a threat and the day continued with chaotic reports and counter reports.
I wondered if the US would launch nukes in response. After all, GWB was president back then.

WTC - I was at work and we had a huge prayer circle, then most of the staff was given the opportunity to go home with pay for the day. I was not given the option, and doubt if I would have taken advantage of it.

The Rest - Surfing the internet somewhere.

2 - Don't know.

3 - First grade. I was sick that day, and my dad picked me up from the school clinic and told me.

4 - Don't know.

Diana: Didn't really care much. Divorced the Royals and running around with new boyfriend. Big Deal.

Jackson: Wasn't much of superstar when he kicked off. Just some reclusive freak whose nose was falling off.

JPII: Not a big surprise; he was older than dirt.

9/11: Just walked into the gym to start doing cardio. Watched the coverage from the treadmill.

Princess Diana - I was at the store with my parents when I read on the cover of a magazine that she had died.
Michael Jackson - People kept posting threads about it on GaiaOnline, so I checked CNN.com and saw it was true.
World Trade Center - I was having morning recess and my mom, who worked as a playground supervisor, came and told me about it because she saw it on TV in the Teacher's Lounge.
Pop John Paul II - I saw it on the news. Or maybe I read it in the weekly Catholic newspaper. I'm so pathetic for not remembering how I found out, being that I'm Catholic and all...

Diana died on the same day as my hamster, so I didn't care at all. The death of my little fluffy one meant much more to me.

I was in my 10th grade algebra 2 class during the WTC attacks. It was really panicky because I'm from Northern Virginia and many students had parents working in the government, many diplomats, and many who worked at the Pentagon. And then the CIA which was literally down the street was evacuated, and my school wasn't.... oi. My dad used to work at the Pentagon and his old office was in the section of the building that got hit, scary!

I don't know where I was for the others.

aww poor hamster, I would prob react the same way. I think the older generation was freaked out though and that was strange to me.

Diana:Grandmother's house in the kitchen, was super young. Someone had to explain to me why Britain still had a Princess

MJ:at home, remember thinking that it was sad, but not surprising. I heard about his upcoming London concerts a few times.
I feel like he left the world a long time before his death. Shame about his kids though.

WTC: I was in fourth grade, the teacher told the class the country was under attack . Class stopped for an hour and we listened to the news on the radio. The governor then called on classes to return to schedule.

JPII:Never been religious, but most of my family is Roman Catholic, they liked him a lot better then Ratsinger. I don't remember where I was or who told me.

4. JPII - Just now

1. Diana - Not sure exactly, but I remember thinking "Who is that?"

2. Jackson - I was on youtube with my tv on in the backround, I had been looping MJs "Earthsong" when in the backround I head he had died and my chair fell over (I'm a leaner)

3. WTC - I was in history class in middle school. As my town is very close to NYC, nobody told us what had happened, and the school was put into lockdown. I found out what happened from my father (an elevator mechanic) at 6pm that day. Apparently, he had finished his work on one of the WTC's elevators on September 9th.

4. JPII - I was watching Telecare (catholic TV) coincidentally. I didn't know much of him, just that my grandparents met him, and that his face is on my Rosary.

Diana: at school, I remember because we made posters the next day about it
WTC: nothing special, just at home, woke up to a call from relatives about "lots of people dying in america"
Jackson: seeing Transformers 2, I got txts from 4-5 different people during the screening (my phone is always set to vibrate, I hate all the alert tones) and checked them afterwards, I remember finding out about Michael Jackson more than a fair bit of the film :P
JPII: no specific recollection, but I think I was living with my dad when Benedict 16 (It's 16th, right?) was elected

Princess D: Not sure, was too young or blissfully unaware. I think I was unhappy about the way it happened though.
WTC: I recall getting to school late, and when I got to my grade 8 class there was a TV on showing live cover. I asked "what movie" and the whole class turned around and "SHHHHHHHHHHHHHH "ed me.
Jackson: I think I was in England at the time, sans newspaper (I forget when it happened precicely) so it took a while to find out...
JPII: Not a clue...

Irrelevant trivia: I was born on Pearl Harbour anniversary of ...bombing?

Diana: In a hall of residence at my university. I'd gone back for a few days during the summer to pick up some books.

Michael Jackson: Getting into work one morning. There was a TV screen in the lobby.

World Trade Centre: At work. I'd just had a ticking off, and the news kind of put things into perspective. Some guy had just read about it on the BBC site. I think they thought it was a hoax at first.

John Paul II: Can't remember. :(

I wasn't aware of the event when Diana died. Probably too busy daydreaming as was typical of my childhood.

WTC was mentioned on the PA at my school but I thought it was just "some American plane crash" until my mom told me about it when I got home from school. I was so stupid back then. I actually thought that planes would still be flying after going through a building and wondered if the terrorists would be caught as soon as they landed.
