In all of nature there is only one animal which really loves us. The dog.

Your cat doesn't love you. He just uses you. Your horse doesn't really love you either.

Only the dog will really love you. A good dog will protect you and your property. He will give his life for you and mourn you if you die.

A good dog really loves you to the bottom of his little doggy soul.

how can you know that though? maybe they protect us because they know we're the food providers? they mourn our deaths because they mean no more treats and belly rubs?

I'm absolutely convinced that my dog only loves me as you would love your personal butler/slave/b***h.

Do any of you groom your own dog or take them to be groomed? I pay $59 for my Westie to be groomed. It includes bath, hair cut, dry, brush, nails trimmed, trim hair around toes, teeth clean, ears cleaned and plucked. My aunt grooms dogs at her home and she charges $45 average rate. She is in New Jersey. Even average rate to groom dogs in Seattle is $45.

I sort of have two.

I live with one right now; he's a two year old (approximately, anyway) Golden Retriever-Husky mix (we think). He was really calm when I got him, but he's had a personality change recently and bounces off the walls. His full name is Raymond, but I call him Ray most of the time.

The other was the family dog, and since I'm moving back in January, I consider him mine as well (he's definietly attached to me more than the rest of the family). His name is Snickers, and he's a ten year old Greater Swiss Mountain Dog mix (we don't know what he's mixed with, but whatever it is is fairly small percentage wise).

He was Super Cow for Halloween last year:

For those of you with puppies... I don't know how you do it. I had a puppy for two months and ended up having to rehome her, because I couldn't keep up... This is a video of her the week I got her (she was five months then and all ready huge); I watch it and want to go take her back, but I couldn't keep her.

I own a Beagle named Jack{technically Jack is owned by my mom},
who will turn 6-years-old in January.

Jack isn't disciplined enough. Dumb dog.
He took a big dump in my mom's room before moving
into the new house began.

And Jack doesn't resemble a 15-inch Beagle.
Jack resembles an unusually large Spaniel rather than a Beagle.

When I get my own, pet-friendly place,
I'll get another Beagle. The new Beagle,
regardless of gender, will be named Snoopy or Gromit.

I have a puppy who's about 8 or 9 months old. I think she's a Basenji/Staffordshire Bull Terrier mix because her mother was a Staffy but she looks like a Basenji and can make funny noises like they do. Sometimes she even tries to immitate the noises people make when they speak. She can immitate "hello" pretty well. It scares strangers all the time when they say hello and then she sort of parrots them which I think is kind of funny.

@RainSong : My aunties got one of those but she is just a pure Labrador and is 10 :) I wish she was young again though, I will try and upload it another time as in using my iPod touch to type this up.

I had a westie for 11 years, she was a sweet dog but had medical issues all her life (ending with brain tumors). My vet told me (in his experience) westies are prone to many diseases. Anyway, cute dog. Currently have a lab (best dog I have ever owned and I have owned many), and a lab mix pup (not remotely the best dog, but she is still young and she tries to be good). :)
