I can't stand it when say "speak up", i find it rather irritating when i have to keep repeating myself.

being called "immature" - It really upsets me and gets me to a meltdown
Also being called "rude" - it can get me angry/frustrated

Yeah, I know I'm talking to a douche when I hear the word 'teamwork'.

then there's:

"emotional intelligence"

"net-net"

In fact, all corporate speak, there's nothing that a pr**k in a suit says that isn't irritating.

But most of all, the one (make that two) ultra-common misuse(s) of language that make me want to go up to total strangers and SPIT in their eye...

Use of the words LIKE or GO to mean SAID or INDICATED

"And so she goes...and he's like...and then I'm going like YOU KNOW..."

I jus ain't down widdat, know'm Sayin?

"okay"

"Do you think it's okay that you do that?"

"Do you think your reaction was okay?"

So much anger when I hear those words.

Act normal. This annoys me to no end. My class is full of autistic children, so we don't have a model for what is normal, and we shouldn't have to act normal! I think it's extremely annoying when someone tries to change me.

When I was a kid, I hated the word child. I felt it was insulting. I don't know why.

Now I hate the word defiant. Probably because I am.

PaganMom

who was no doubt a defiant child

"resonance" or "quantum" -- when they aren't being used to describe ACTUAL resonance or quantum-physical phenomena. Business people & motivational speakers should be legally barred from using those words.

Now that I know the difference, I hate it when children get called baby goats!

Oh, and I wish everybody would spell "okay" properly. Many years ago, I typed "Ok" into a computer programmed to speak, and it said exactly what I typed: "ahk".

"pwned"

It apparently originated as gamer slang so it was only ever typed. As far as I know, it is still only ever typed. It's a word that exists only in print and not in spoken language. I wouldn't even know how to pronounce it and it appears unpronounceable. Neverthless, everytime I encounter it typed, my brain automatically tries to pronounce it and can't because it is a word that does not exist in spoken language, only in typed language.

That just bugs me. My brain wants to pronounce it and keeps jittering back over it trying different phonetic possibilities until I force my eyes to continue on and disregard it.

"Persons".
Grr.
"Only 6 persons allowed in this elevator."
WTF is with that???? The plural is "PEOPLE"! !! GRR!
But no. Elevators have to be different.

-------------
"FTW" aka "For The Win". Phrases like "Lol" and "wtf" are one thing because at least they use the correct wording in the correct order... but what the hell is "for the win"?????

-------------
"Poo". Lol. I just don't like how it sounds. It sounds silly.

-------------
"Fag" and "Fag-hag" for gay people and their best female friends, respectively. I just think they are really derogatory words.

-------------
"Flange". Not the word itself, but what some persons use it to describe - i.e woman's genitalia. Particularly in a situation when I am talking about music production with someone I don't know very well and I use that word (which describes a musical effect).

-------------
"Tounge". It's TONGUE, people COME ON!

-------------
"Wierd". It's WEIRD, people COME ON!!

-------------
When I was in school I hated the words "analysis" "evaluation" and "conclusion" because they were used in Science projects. We'd have to write up our findings on question sheets and any two of these three words would be used and I never could work out the difference.

-------------
And I agree with PlatedDrake about the words "should" and "shouldn't". They are words that refer to an alternate reality which really do not help us in this reality....

"omg he shouldn't have died".

"well that should have fixed your computer... but it didn't".

-------------
Phrases...
"At the end of the day"

When person A is telling person B about a confrontation they had earlier with person C, and person A says "So he told me to bog off so I turned around and said get lost."

You TURNED AROUND and said??? Why were you not already facing him??? You didn't TURN AROUND at all DID YOU??!?!? It's just a silly stupid phrase that you, and many others, are not even aware you use.

I hate the phrase "that being said".
I've heard that way too many times lately and it really bugs me.

I have several words I don't like. One of them is "veggies." I prefer "vegetables."

There are some phrases I dislike, such as:

out and about
get go
here and there

And there are more, but I just can't think of them at the moment.

Hmm... The topic is "words" that we hate, but a lot of people seem to be adding phrases that they hate.
So to go along with this trend, I hate it when people can't follow rules or instructions. :)

As for some words I hate:
Acquaintance
Agenda
Apropos (I don't even know what the hell that means)
Bling (or just about any new words that come out of kids mouths these days)
Cliche
Niche
Obese
Semantics
Travesty
