We ate christmas lunch with ( some members of ) my 10 year old son's papa's family, and it lasted from 12.30 to 4.30pm.
Started with foie gras, and a sweet wine, ( had honey in it ), which was delicious. Then four or five large "noix st jaques", ( which are big round tender white shellfish ), with a dollop of creamed spinach and egg and cheese. Then turkey, green beans, and fresh roasted chestnuts. After that a gloriously smelly and gooey/creamy and tasty cheese, called époisse, with dressed green salad, and a red wine. I passed on the traditional "buche", ( cream filled, white and dark chocolate covered, swiss roll style thing ), but ate some clementines/tangerines.
In the evening we met some other members of my son's papa's family, but at a restaurant this time, and, because it was so soon after lunch
I just had one dish; a mound of of herby creamy ( warm ) fish "terrine/paté", with sweet potato, chestnut and mashed potato puree, and celery.
