This is why everyone eventually dies. In your old age, your body is bad to begin with and everyone who doesn't die of other causes eventually end up sitting in a wheelchair, unable to move. And then, BAAM! Heart attack.

Seriously though, you don't expect an 100-year-old in a wheelchair to live long, even if they had a good medical history.

That's why its important to keep on your feet and keep your mind active well into old age. People who do that are more likely to actually LIVE (and not merely exist) until the day (or week) where they pass away.

My great grandmother is now 103 and eats nothing but candy and still has no use for the wheelchair, she will be 104 in April!

Both my grandparents are dead and they ate fairly healthy. I think most of this is due to genetics rather than sitting and eating although I'm sure living a healthy lifestyle such as physical activity will help prolong your life expectancy.

How do their physical activity compare though?

Come to think about it both my grandparents didn't move around a whole lot

My granny was diabetic and was always sitting in front of the TV while my other grandomother was in a wheelchair so there could be a correlation. My greatgrandmother is still not in a wheelchair and does a lot of physical activities like gardeing in spite of her bad eating habits.

I think I take after her somewhat.... :?

I have an electric table which I can raise up and down. That saves both my ass and my life out of all time at the computer!!

Does reading count too? Weird that television, computer and video games are always account for bringing sedentary life but never books. Whatever, I certainly won't live long according to this study...

Isn't most reading done on computer nowadays, I mean the number of hours spent on reading is mostly on the computer.

hmmm, over the winter when it is to cold out, each day I usually watch about 3 hours of tv or movies during my 3-3.5 hour workout, hmm  , and here I find out that I dont need to workout, I just need to turn the TV and computer off, and here, all this time I thought it was the lack of exercise that killed people

This story is a pathetic beat-up.
Sitting and watching tv will kill you.

Well what about sitting in an office all day? What about taxi drivers and bus drivers and airline pilots?
What about farmers who sit driving a tractor for hours on end?
How about the guy who sits in a toll booth collecting coins from motorists?

What is so special about TV?
