I deactivated my FB account today.

Most of the friends that I like dont really post much on it anymore while the friends and family who've been getting on my nerves post insanely. I'm just not comfortable with it anymore. I'm not comfortable with posting something and then having my friend who always responds to everything I do respond to it and it's too much wasted time and energy to alter the privacy settings for each friend I dont want seeing another thing.

Plus FB has gotten corrupted. And I dont like the new approach theyre planning for FB profiles. I have no interest in sharing my life story with people when I clearly have none.

If I ever get on it again at least I dont have to re-add everyone and most of my info will be saved. I only lurk and lurking kinda makes me feel more like a loser everything I see something big on a friend's profile.

That's pretty much it...

Oh...and employment privacy 8)

Lotuspuppy, I have recently quit for the exact same reasons you did. I also had to remove it as it ruined my friendship with my ex and it was painful to remind myself of that breakup every day with updates from his friends. People say it's a good way to keep in touch with others, but more than anything it loses your connection between them as most of the time people are "stalking" each other's profiles for news about each other instead of actually TALKING to them. It impedes communication between people rather than promotes it.

My diagnoses - social anxiety disorder and obsessive-compulsive disorder.

I’m no longer involved with the ASD world.

YES!! !

Couldn't have said it better. I'm against forms of social engineering. Each to their own. Facebook sucks. Enough said.

Eh, I keep my friend's list hidden from everyone, use an alternate name, blocked people, be selective with what I post there, etc, so I can enjoy my time on Facebook.

Don't blame you, mate. I just deleted my twitter as I hardly use it. Facebook might be next eventually.

I know this was posted nearly a year ago, but I've never been on a thread about facebook before on WP, so I thought I'll butt in this one.
I agree with you - facebook irritates me. It's always ''facebook this, facebook that'', everywhere you go. I prefer MSN to facebook. I did create an account for facebook just last summer, but I wasn't getting on with it. And I was reluctant to add people as friends to my facebook because they might be those sort who might take the piss, because I'm a boring person with no big social life, and I was just afraid I might have got bullied. Between us Aspies, sometimes I can feel socially worried of the really confident young NTs who haven't got a clue about the feelings of people like me, especially if they are like my uncle's ex-wife, who has really confident, rich friends who all go up to London to parties and practically look down upon people with low self-esteem and low confidence, like me. She is the complete opposite of me.

And facebook seems to split marriages up lately, too. My friend once wrote horrible things about her mum on facebook, when her mum hasn't even done anything. I think it's all wrong.

Finally, someone found a use for facebook.

that's where I am with the facebook thing. I was heavily into it for about a year, thought I had found some like-minded 'friends' who had the same experiences I had, but I suppose that was bound to end. Even in cyberspace, the friendship thing is a challenge for me. I tried to do all the things I thought I was supposed to do, be supportive and 'listen' and stuff, but just like in real life, as long as you seem to listen, the other person is happy to spew, but they disappear when they're done with whatever THEY wanted to say. I deactivated my account, then reaslized while working on Ancestry -dot com- that it really *IS* a great way to find cousins and pictures of relatives.... in other words, stalk and spy on people

I'm not a fan of mainstream social sites. People are mindless sheep who are copying the mainstream because they lack individual thoughts or they are so obsessed with popularity & being liked that they are afraid to be different. There's also a bunch of corporations, spammers & scammers trying to take advantage of anyone they can

I go from deactivating it to reactivating it, it all depends on what mood I"m in.
