I don't know if you're in America or not, but if you are, you might want to avoid anything that's going to injure him. He may or may not try to sue the pants off of you, I certainly wouldn't want to try it and find out :x

Personally, I just make sure all my curtains are shut when I change my clothes or whatever...but I've got weird privacy issues, so maybe that's just me...

^ THAT.

"Intentional trap designed to cause bodily harm".

With a good lawyer the peeping Tom may end up with your house and driving your car.

Don't leave anything that looks like a gun lying around. Someone will call the police, or worse yet someone else other than the peeping Tom will see it and break in to take it.

Call the cops on the guy. Your taxes are paying for their protection. Use them.

A motion activated light is a good idea. Also, take a picture of his face next time he peeps in.

Rancid butter bombs would really be fun to use, but making them could make me sick, and I am sensitive to smells anyway. I appreciate all of the ideas and advice. If he does come back, there will be natural hazards in place to make him uncomfortable becuase I ma adding a cactus garden to the yuccas very soon, and a little wire fencing. These would not be conspicuously laid traps that can get me in trouble.

I have avoided using my dog because I don't want her to end up quarantined or something. This county takes quick action in animal bite cases. They would take her and she would probably go crazy with them, prompting a quick euthanasia. Dee is a feral dog and she does not like anyone accept for me, my mom, and my daughter. Anyone else is food. I couldn't bear something happening to her because she was defending me.

Dee is part Catahoula, which is a breed used to hunt wild boar, raccoons, and bears. The guy next door could be mistaken for a bear, LOL.

hmmm - a thought - how about a note in the letterbox - signed by ALL the neighbours you know - that says...
"you have been spotted trespassing on other peoples property and acting suspiciously - please be warned that the police WILL be called if you are spotted again - signed your friendly neighbours..."

Get the largest male in the neighbourhood to go stick it in his letterbox with a smile

*gives dee a friendly pat on the way past*

UV dye. Spray UV dye anywhere he'd have to touch if he tried to look in your window. Then if he does it again, call the police and tell them about the UV dye. They can talk to him and all they'd need is a little hand-held blacklight unit and his hands will glow.

Or...

You can try something like this:

Ok would the uv dye dry against the house, though? It seems it would be dry and not transfer to his hands, or is this a dry type of chemical anyway?

I loved the clip- very funny. The only problem would be that I would eat the mentos before I ever got the first stage under way.

I should mention that this guy has given us trouble before- his complaining and brown nosing convinced our land lord to cut down several trees in our yard. My mom has lived here for 12 years, and me for over 2 years, and that guy moved in next door in November. Problems happened after the guy tried to get my mom to pay him for raking the leaves when she knew the land lord had paid him, and she refused. We raised a fuss about him being up close the house raking in the flower beds. He had no business there at all, and the leaves are not a problem in the flower beds. Leaves are not a problem period. They get mulched with the lawn mower. So then he burned patches in the yard when he burned the leaves. He was too lazy to put the stupid leaves in bags. So he is no longer allowed near our yard. We don't talk to him at all.

I think he just has to look in- maybe some compulsion of his, and now he has to do it on the sly because he is forbidden to come over to do any yard work. I have a feeling that any type of confrontation- letters, going up to him and threatening, anything would excite him and give him the thrill he wants. So I just want to make it very unpleasant for him if he tries to look in my window again. And , of course, catch him so the cops can handle it.

Scatter some nails around said area, and "accidentally" make them scatter so they're the pointy end up, supported, and held up straight in some way, "accidentally".

Make sure no one you know goes near said window....

hmm - ok then - it sounds like back to the webcam or vidcam plan - set one up and give evidence to police... also stick SMALL sticker on window (that you cant read till close up) saying images of this garden being broadcast on the internet....
as a security measure/cover - publish a vid of the dog in the garden or something innocent first....

Once you catch him on vid - publish it to youtube with his name attached - and send a link to his work/friends/relatives/local paper/everyone you can think of - also post it here with a please click me link to raise its youtube rankings

Let him know AS community annoyed with him and discussing ways of dealing with him? Probably believes we can hijack military satellite and fry him from space in his own back garden?
Or at least photograph him on a clear night.

Maybe we can :D

My ex-bf and I had a recurring Peeping Tom. I don't know what his thing was; he never seemed to be there when we were changing or being intimate, but every so often we'd be on the computers playing EverQuest, or watching a James Bond movie, or reading aloud, and I'd see his shape against our shade! We began calling the cops every time we saw him, and although he'd run for it and never got caught, he stopped coming by after a few weeks of that. We never had trouble again!

Curtains help. Then again, I'm against doing anything that would actually hurt someone. I'd rather think of ways to deter of foil them.

Just so everyone knows- I DO have curtains and blinds- that is why he was on the railroad tie with his face plastered against the window. I cant stand having any uncovered windows at night.

This is one of those situations where the appearance of danger/craziness might be preferable to the real deal. Case in point; a really simple modification to your windowsill is to remove the sill, pound some short nails through from the bottom so they stick out the top, then nail it back in place. Yes, this will poke someone who attempts to pull themselves up by the sill, but the more important effect is the message it sends; that you're the kind of paranoid and possibly crazy person that booby-traps their own house, and god only knows what you might do if you caught said trespasser. Poky plants are definitely a good "soft" solution as well since they are completely innocent in the eyes of the law, maybe augmented with some fishhooks and line strung among the leaves if the problem persists. Some "caution, vicious dog" signs probably wouldn't hurt either.

Oh but that is what binoculars and peepholes are for! I enjoy peeping through the blinds and shutting them really quick when the person starts to feel my gaze- adds to that crazy cat lady image I am going for.

Dox47- I do have a "beware dog" sign in the front door. I think I will make another for my window. My God, if Dee were to wake up and see someone's shadow at the window she would probaby try to go through it to get him. I never have to worry walking her at night. She makes absolutely no noise- all the other dogs around here start barking and she will not bark back, but she watches everything that goes on around us. If a person comes towards me her hair ridges up and she becomes a snarling menace. I pity the fool who tries to walk up on me in the dark. She was a feral pup I found in the woods two years ago, nearly starved but still feisty, and she is very grateful to us for saving her.

This made me almost do a laughing piggy snort - mostly because my father has said this exact same thing to me.

Be careful about liability issues, even if he physically doesn't get hurt, he could sue for damage to his precious reputation were he to be caught. The camera idea sounds the best to me.
