I don't really care about facebook, I just come online and post or lurk around to check on how my friends have been doing... I have in the past been in a few facebook dramas and I tried to add some of my old teachers but some of them rejected it for some reason, maybe I thought I was too much of a troublesome for them. I just wouldn't be surprised.

But I'm not a frequent poster, however what I seem to recently find ridiculous about facebook is that they are going to start charging people for using facebook which is not going to be a good thing at all.... Well for some people it wouldn't while for the others, it would be a good thing. I find that rather ridiculous, but then again, it is a free website, so technically they ain't making any money from it.

They could at least have a feature where they could have a premium account, it would work out alot more for facebook.

I don't know about any other country but in Australia teachers/teacher aides etc.. are bound by code of conduct policies which state they can't be Face Book friends with current or past students. It's a little far fetched with the past students bit. Sensibly, I guess, you could add someone who left school, say... five years ago or so...

If I have a friend request from a current student, I ignore and then make sure I let them know about the policy so that they don't take it personally.

That's nothing, when I was on Facebook for a short amount of time (just to try it out, see what the fuss was about, the fact I removed my account tells you what I thought), someone actually blocked me for liking their status. Honestly, no joke.

I have learned that FB friendships are not indicitive of friendship/acquaintanceship in real life.

I have people that I talk to at work, church and through civic activities on a regular basis that have rejected my friend requests. On the other hand, I am friends with people I hardly know. I don't understand the dynamics behind this, but I know that people use Facebook for different reasons.

I agree, I feel like I am ignored with my status updates. People will make all sorts of comments when someone posts about their druken experience or their bowel movement, but when I post something intellectual it is like no one cares.

As for former teachers, a few of them have added me as a friend, including one of my principals. This is probably due to the fact that I have been out of school for 15 years, and am involved in acitivities with them today. Also, I am not a fan of Farmville, I help in managing our real family farm in NE Iowa.

BTW, I hate how FB has changed the info page and depersonalized it. Now for some reason, the movies, books, and activities I enjoy are now in my friends list.

I wouldn't hand my personal information out to anyone. Way to reveal your details to anybody who wants them.

Facebook is only a social utility that shouldn't be taken seriously - friends or no friends, many or few - as if it matters since with people one can never tell their next move, never anticipate, so why worry? Better see their true colours sooner than later.
