I have a question - is Alice a commonly given now, modern name? Because in Twilight, during Bella's first contact with the Cullens, when she finds out what names they have, she thinks these are obsolete names their grandparents could have. I know such names as Emmett, Jasper or Rosalie are indeed uncommon for younger generations (though I read Emmett comes into fashion again) but does it concern also the name Alice? We have a name Alicja in Poland and it's a common (not really very common but still), universal name for practically every generation, from 40 year olds to children - maybe now it seems to be given less often but it's a name for someone young, is it in the English speaking countries too?

yes I have known lots of young women called Alice, I expect it has become less popular in very recent years due to the horrid comedy song (who the f*** is alice).

I think it is a classic name used through out the ages, such as you will always meet Rebecca's of all ages or Katherine's. I think Alice is a lovely name.

I didn't know about such a song. But it made me recall this Fritzl joke:

An Austrian journalist asked a neighbour how long he had known Josef Fritzl's daughter Alice.

"Alice?" he replied. "Who the f**k is Alice? You mean for 24 years................I've been living next door to Alice?"

Though I completely DON"T GET IT AT ALL
