I reported it as spam.

I haven't gotten this one yet. I'm betting it's the same person.

This Tata person is certainly getting around. Got the email just now myself. Responded. Waiting for the other shoe to drop, wondering what they're selling...? But it did get me to log onto Wrongplanet again after being away for awhile. Doing well, finally got some answers from the Federal Government about my status as a disabled person. Yay.

If you don't want this kind of spam, shut off email access through your profile. Set it so only PM can be used. Also, NEVER EVER EVER post your email address anywhere on your profile, or on the forums, or anywhere else on the web on publicly accessible pages. The reason the OP and others are getting these is because you have your emails posted. A robot program is scraping the pages of WP looking for those. If you have it posted, I can guarantee you will sooner or later be spammed. And once they have it, it may never stop.

If you're already getting these, and hopefully it's on a free account, I highly recommend opening a new account, notifying everyone in your address book only to start using the new address, then once everyone in your contacts has responded to the new account, DELETE the old one permanently.

And quit posting your address on the web!

This is getting to the point where a sticky might be warranted to make members aware of this so not every person who gets these has to make a topic about it.
I've been seeing a lot more topics about this and not just in this board.

The NTs are invading!!

Bugger, I replied to that email asking what they were talking about. What form of scam is it? What ate they hoping to achieve?

An emotional hook (you are the fish)....carefully reeling you in through greed...perhaps her father was rich but they must have money so they can retrieve it from a far away place only to give you much more later... or through hopes of love...when you send her enough money to fly her to you...or through a sense of pity....she needs money for food etc....the type of hook is endless......when they can get you to send them money....they will have landed their big fish.

It is such a disappointment that some people can be so cruel.

chalk me up as another victim of this scam, what does replying to the first email do, is this person trying to hack my computer because they can have it over my dead body.

@ xemnasfan Assuming they didn't send any attachments to the email and you haven't visited any sites they may have asked you to visit, you shouldn't have picked up any malware (yet). Just delete their email and any more they send you. They will likely add you to what is known as the "suckers list" and you could likely start receiving spam for everything from viagra to porn to horoscopes etc. They may also send threatening emails demanding "compensation money" too. Don't reply to anything. Just keep deleting the stuff and don't open any attachments. If they persist I suggest you abandon your email address and switch to a new one.
