Makes me rather tired, really. :tired:

I often have a cola before bed, and I am usually quite relaxed and ready for sleep after drinking it.

Glider18, it's probably because of hyperglycemia.

Jmnixon95, sometimes paradoxal reactions happen. There are people who are hype after morphine.

Yeah, you're right, it's because of milk. Try without it and post here how it was.

This sounds more pleasant than the reverse experiment: adding milk to your cola. *lol*

I can't drink coffee or tea without milk, it makes me want to puke

Many people on the spectrum have different metabolic systems apparently. I was once given morphine after an operation in hospital and I was extremely hyper for about 24 hours after that

this would SO be the right thread for me if i wasn't so tired right now....

...anyway... I think the milk theory is interesting . Coffie eighter makes me more tired or really hyper.
But in my case it can have a lot to do with how much sleep i have gotten and if i have eaten enough ect.

I have noticed that sometimes it makes me more tired at first but then a few minutes after the energy comes and stays for a good while.

but i barely ever get any coffie down without milk and sugar and DO get hyper a lot...i think..

It seem to have something to do with how much you drink and how fast too

I was a long distance truck driver for years so coffee does nothing at all for me. Oh I have never used drugs to stay awake either except drinking coffee. I was placed on a morphine based medication for pain and was not aloud to drive. Went back to the doctor and he asked me the last time I had slept.I must have looked like a zombie. I told him that i had not slept since i saw him last and that was five days earlier. He said the dose I was on, most people would sleep all the time. So I would agree different people react differently to stimulants.

SteelMaiden posted: Why is it that instant coffee (caffeine content 65-100mg) doesn't keep me awake, but 500ml diet coke (65mg) does keep me awake, to the point that I can stay up until the early hours of the morning on it. I can drink 4 cups of instant coffee on an empty stomach and nothing will happen, but 500ml of diet coke on an empty stomach keeps me buzzing for hours

It's likely if you add a little white cane sugar from Hawaii to the instant coffee that you can tell a difference. In some cases, it is caffeine plus sugar (not just the caffeine). The most informative book I recall on this topic of caffeine is a How To (understand) Hyperactivity book (1981) about ADHD Inattentive by C. Thomas Wild which goes into great detail to the question you pose including why some brand name meds can work noticeably differently than generic meds. A cup of regular coffee has over 500 ingredients in it only one of which is caffeine. Soft drinks have a lot more than just caffeine in them. The additional ingredients in soft drinks can play a big role in what they do/how people perceive them working or not. Some persons can tell a big difference between a can of regular Pepsi-Cola vs a can of regular Coca-Cola. It's due to the little differences in ingredients for the two soft drink brands.

Thanks for the replies, they helped

I've stopped drinking caffeine completely and it was hard at first but I'm regaining natural energy again

Same here - but I'll do it sometimes like during finals week or before snowboarding.

For as long as I can remember caffeine had little or no effect on me. I could drink a pot of coffee, soda or an energy drink and be completely calm and not buzzing at all. Since I have started on Adderall I have noticed a slight buzz from mountain dew or pepsi and Im wired after drinking an energy drink. Coffee still doesn't have much of an effect on me but more than it did before.
