I live in a culturally rich neighborhood with almost everyone included.. however I don't believe we have any Koreans yet.. (the neighbor in question happens to be mexican, I didn't mention it because it was irrelevent other than the language issue) my spanish is a bit rusty I could have said "Su perro morte, mi malo" (roughly I think it means "Your dog is dead, my bad" but I'm sure had I tried to say it myself he would have started shooting.. )

Omnicognic: I'm glad everything worked out in the end. Most people appreciate it when you are being honest with them, even if the truth can be hurtfull. I just hope that little fellow gets a decent burial somewhere.

While ice would have been fine for preservation, he was in bad shape.
I happened to have about 10 "gallons" on hand and needed to chill him quickly so he would stay.... er.. dog shaped.. if you require more detail than that, private message me.

Sorry about the dog. I have hit my dog before with my car too on the way to work and she had to get stitches where her skin tore opened. She ran right in front of me while I was going 25 mph on the road and she was running along side me and then all of a sudden she jumped right in front of me. I cried and called my dad because I couldn't find her. She whimpered and ran and hid. I went to work anyway upset and I was sent home because I was upset and worried about my dog. But she was okay. My dad has hit one of our dogs too. Same situation I was in except he was driving a pick up truck and the dog was running along side him and then all of a sudden he ran right in front of him and then he was running on three legs. dad took him to the vet and the next day he got a phone call saying the dog was peeing blood and his insides are squished and he can't guarantee he will live if he gives him an operation. My dad decided to put him to sleep.

There was another dog we also had when I was 16 and it was a puppy and he loved chasing cars. Well my mom and my uncle and my little brother were going to McDonalds and my brother heard a thump and he said to mom she hit our dog and she said she did not. They all looked behind and saw him lying on the ground trying to get up. By the time they found something for him, he was already dead. My uncle speculated he slipped on some ice and fell against the wheel of the car and it flipped him over breaking his back and him trying to get up cut off his breathing. There was no sign he was ran over.

Then we have had a neighbor who have ran over one of our puppies one of our dogs had because she was mad my parents moved her horses to another spot on our land so she sped up to our driveway hitting one of the puppies and it was an accident she hit one of them. She cried. Dad just wrapped her up in a towel and we buried her.

Then there was another time when mom almost ran over one of the puppies as she was backing out and if it weren't for me being in the garage and nearby, I wouldn't have been able to pull the puppy out from behind the wheel before getting ran over. My parents could never back out of their garage because of the puppies because they weren't sure if they'd be in the way so they always needed someone to come out in the garage and watch the puppies as they back out. So that's what I did and saved one of them when one of them got behind the wheel.

But it wasn't your fault like all this wasn't ours except for our neighbor because she was speeding up the driveway too fast and not driving carefully when there are puppies running and walking around in our yard.

I think you should knock on their door, and hand them the dog, and say the following:

"Sorry, I ran over your dog this morning. I'll buy you a new one if you want"

Wow you have had a lot of experience with this sort of thing.. the only other time I "hit" a dog was a pit bull chasing my 4x4 he grabbed my mudhawg tire and it flipped him straight up about 10 feet in the air.. he landed, jumped up, seemingly unhurt but surprised and ran away

Just tell them you did it but it was obviously an accident. If your neighbors had a heart, they will not only accept and appreciate the fact that you told the truth but that you were the bigger person by doing so. But you should offer to pay for the dog's medical attention. And your neighbors will feel very grateful for your support.

Obviously you don't have to do what I tell you, its just a suggestion.

I don't think she should pay anything. Little dog off leash & unsupervised = not good or responsible on the neighbors behalf.

And yeah OP, you should have told the neighbor as soon as possible. Maybe you can just call animal control so they can pick up the body. Just say you were waiting for the neighbor to get home (if they weren't home) but they took so long you thought you should cool it, but then you realized it might be a health hazard so you called animal control.

Edit - Oops I thought your own dad caught you, I just skimmed through it a bit. I laughed so hard at "Su perro morte, mi malo."

I wish this thread could be saved forever.

I do not find hitting a dog while driving funny at all. The dog was someone's pet.

While it was a horrible accident and certainly not funny. It wouldn't have happened if his owners kept control of him. This dog, a minpin(miniature pincer) thought he was a doberman pincer and attacked anything that moved and he was a nuisance.. the ankles in the neighborhood are safe once again!

(Was morbidly depressed yesterday about the whole incident, Doc said to double up my xanax..and I did some self medicating... I'm feeling much better today but liable to post anything..lol)

It's not the death of the dog I find funny, it's all the stuff in this thread.

The way the situation was handled was a little bit funny, guys. It was something you might see in a television show. It's sad that the dog is dead though.

Hope you're feeling okay though, Omnicognic.

Hi Omnicognic... wow, what a situation you got into. And thank God that it worked out the way it did... the way you were handling it was potentially awful. Someone might have thought you were trying to upset them by hoarding and freezing the dog's body. If anything like that ever happens again, go straight to the police and explain what happened.

It was as much the neighbour's fault as yours though... the little creature should not have been running off a lead. But all I can say is, thank God this whole mess got straightened out.

I'm glad that things worked themselves out and I hope that you've feeling better, soon. What a nightmare.

Wow you guys are awesome, thank you so much for the well wishes! I am feeling much better thanks!

I have an update: earlier today, the wife of my neighbor who owned the dog (her name is Vivian and his is Angel, btw I'm lousey at remembering names) came over and brought clothes for my kids. They have as many as we do and theirs are just a bit older so she brought us the ones they outgrew.. and we talked a bit.. she speaks fluent english..
Later around 4:00 in the afternoon I heard a bunch of kids yelling and screaming.. looked outside and our street was filled with kids on bikes and skateboards as word of the accident spread...

I went out and was talking to a different neighbor(not the dogs owner) who said and I'm trying to think of exactly how she put it.. "It's a christmas miracle early, now that that turbocharged, laser guided weedeater with an ankle fetish is gone, kids can ride their bikes again!" (She about did me in with that)
I also found out that little brute was wearing some major bling, the stones on his collar were real and worth about 5k...and they were up all night with a hairdryer thawing him enough to get it off..

Morbid I know, I'm sorry.. bizarre twist to an unfortunate story..
