Yeah, that is another issue with animal breeding, the forced and intentional removal of animals from their mother when they are still are not ready to function on their own.Puppies not even a month old are sold and kittens as well...I don't know why there are not any solidified rules, agencies and inspectors to make sure the standards are followed. Most poeple don't care, they just want to make money/buy the cute animal.

I thought the youngest puppies and kittens could be before they were sold was 6 weeks. I got my cat when he was only 5 weeks but he was from a neighbours litter.

I bought my dog at a pet shop, but at the time I didn't research his heritage (that would have involved conversing with the shopkeeper). Would have been nice to know where his siblings, parents, aunts and uncles were :(. I know he was from a local breeder though.

Also, it's not good to buy puppies from a pet store. A lot of those puppies come from puppy mills & often times have a lot of medical issues. Puppy mills are awful places & where the puppies & especially the dogs that give birth to the puppies are horribly mistreated. By buying puppies from pet stores you're helping to support puppy mills. If you're going to buy a puppy buy one from a licensed breeder who treats their dogs with love & kindness. However, I still prefer mixed breed dogs to full bred dogs. Mix breed dogs
are healthier & often times over looked because they're not popular. But I love them, they're awesome! :D

P.S. Sorry for the long winded rant, dogs happen to be an obsession of mine.

I'd prefer to adopt, because you tend to buy things and animals aren't things. So I'd feel weird about buying a cat or something as if it was a chair or a bottle of coke.

We've bought pets before, but never dogs or cats.

I've heard some people prefer to buy animals because as they're purebred and have a pedigree, they are like worth more, so they must be better, like 'my cat cost four hundred dollars' or something. However, I think cats are cats no matter where they come from. I got my kitty from one of my brother's friends whose cat had kittens. The rest of the litter was let go and they were feral probably. :( But just because she's not purebred doesn't mean she's worth less.

I adopted my dog when she was a little puppy. She's a big and healthy dog now and I'm proud I saved her life. She's so happy.
