No, its not found like that. you have to be a skilled fire agate cutter to even think about exposing the gem layer
Yeah - I had a quick look on EBay after you'd posted and it became clear that preparation was required.

You might have started something here - they are beautiful, and I'd really like one. Or two...
Do you have any good on-line places I could check out?
Those I found on EBay seemed pretty small (although only $20 or so) - apart from one beauty at $10,000!

I would rather wait until I was back in Arizona and buy it in person. :) I like to feel what I'm buying.

Excellent, thanks for that. I saw it when I looked earlier and wondered. "Hmm. Should I?..."
But now I wonder no more because - I've bought it! :bounce:

I'll post some pics once it arrives!

Just remember direct sunlight is the best way to view fire agate. yours is beautiful. I love the orange ontop skirted by purple. :D

Yep, well used to the odd effects caused by poor quality lighting: photography is er, something of an interest, and many odd colour balance effects are resolved by sunlight.
So sunlight it will be!

I've never seen one "for real", so I'm really looking forward to experiencing the real colours and the depth of them.

Oh dude your going to love it! I would be completely shocked if you didnt like it.
you should put it into a ring or your favorite piece of jewelery. Slaughter mountain is probably the most famous mine for Fire agate right now, the stuff comming out of there is amazing!

and also you have an investment. people are finally begging to relise the sheer value of it

Wendell is usually good about shipping fast. I dont have paypal, so I have to send a money order. So if i did it would even be faster i'm shure. Do you want me to post your fire agate pictures in this topic?

What do you mean investment? These will rise in price?

I was thinking these were hundreds of dollars. Maybe even a thousand or something.

I may look into them too. It sort of does look like lava and fire.

I think it's really cool that you know so much about fire agates, Richard. They really are an awesome thing to be passionate about. 8)

Yes, they will rise in price. One of the mines is completely worked out, I talked with a guy that said after a good rainstorm you can still go out and pick up some good pieces, but the color is slowly getting dull. The mines in mexico nobody is really shure of Some people say its really bad others say the mines are healthy. Plus remember this is mexico, nobody wants to live/work there

The california mines arent that great, although they do produce. Basically, fire agate is a limited commodity so yes, the price can only go up. I've noticed in the last 2-3 months the prices on ebay have dramatically risen.

Thanks IdahoRose, I really couldnt be passionate about anything else really, well maybe sportscards. 8)

I have no patience. None whatever.
But so far everyone I've dealt with on EBay has been very good with the delivery so I'm sure it will be here quickly.

Yeah, good idea. It's in the right place and it's easy to find again.
