It's been going for years. One of the old theme tunes to
Gardener's World always sticks in my memory.

There are also other shows I can think of that you might not have seen like
The Royle Family. It's a comedy, but very little actually happens. It has gradually changed over the years (and has suffered for it, IMO) but it's basically about a family of northern working-class people who sit in front of the TV, headed by patriarch (and fat slob-in-chief) Jim Royle. That's the plotline. It's all to do with families, and idle gossip, people they know (but most of them we never see), food, bad habits, and so on.
Early Doors is like a follow-on from that but set in a Manchester pub.
